Well.... it was a cold.... wet.. nasty.... windy.. day. And from a waterfowlers point of view.. especially huntin divers... that means PERFECT scenerio. I officially have a new addiction. Guys from my area asked me if i wanted to go out chasin some divers this morning on a lake about 40 mile from here. I ended up shootin my first bluebill( yes i know about the minnesota ordeal) but this is my first one. And a beauty he is. 3 of us came home with 3 birds... 2 bills and a redhead.. but holy cow did we have fun. Those guys know what there doin thats for sure. Some shootin errors and a boat tip over shortened our bag numbers but that didnt matter to me. I had one heck of a good time. I know what i'll be doin next week.

Ha... the boat tip over is great. With the choppy water and the way we had to face did not mix. we had to face away from houses rather than have the wind directly at our backs. This does not work well in a layout boat. The water would now and then splash up the side and into the boat. WELL!! evidently when our buddy (last person) got into the boat ... he called us and said that the waves were gettin too crazy and we needed to head out soon but he wanted to try to shoot a bill first. Well... opportunity came.... he sits up...but when he does the front tips down... water starts pilin in the boat and over she goes .... welll, guess you culd say down she goes. SOMEHOW.. he manages to get his legs out... gracefully land on his feet in the sandbar and still ring off 3 shots. Probably the funniest thing ihave ever witnessed since nothin was lost but.. the bluebills went unscathed. I bet we had a good 8 volleys today .... but was just rough the way the wind was. First man in the boat was left handed and all the birds were runnin right to left... so he was tryin to swing backwards. Didnt work out real well. And me explainin this boat tip over has almost made me my pants from laughin so hard from relivin it... thanks travis

I always wanted to try that, but it is worse then any other form of waterfowling. layouts, tender boats you get a lot wrapped up in it that's for sure. But it looks awsome. Congrats.

Congrats on the hunt. I'm hoping to have a MLB by next year too. It's been a few years since I have been in one.

The main guy is actually a real good friend of mine jw. You probably wouldnt know him.. but he is an aqcuantance( sp) and has hunted with Mark Rodgers from up here a few times. I belive actually when they videoed up on Houghton a couple years ago Rodgers was the one runniin that ordeal... but thats not for certain.. i cant remember the story

I have a Four Rivers layout boat that I'll be hunting out of this year for the first time. It's a 14 footer with a 6.5 hp Beavertail mud motor on it.
That Beavertail mud motor is heavy!! I'm thinking of selling it and getting a little Nissan, Tahatsu, or something similar in the 3.5 hp to 5 hp range.
