Sorry Jon, but I'm taking credit for the warm up. I got a snow blower! The neighbor across the street is cutting firewood with us now. He has used a chunk of my yard for a garden and has been nice enough to plow my drive. I was over there a couple days ago helping (not much) unload wood and I made a comment about getting a snow blower this year when I saw his. He told me to take it home! 24" Troybuilt with electric start. WooHoo!

I must admit, I'm ready for spring now. I think I could have gotten on a pond today, but tomorrow I'll be afraid. Last week the ice was 10.5" thick where I was at, but one spot made me pucker up and do a Snagglepuss stage left. A loud CRACK rang out and I really don't remember my feet hitting the ice after that. I may have taken flight. ...But oh did I have fun.

With the knee I didn't get on the ice this year. Ice fishing is fun, but I much prefer open water and fresh fish on the bank.

I remember back around '79 or so,taking the family out on Lake Monroe sometime in late winter ice fishing. I didn't have proper gear yet, but hacked a hole through 10" of clear hard ice up in the bay we were on. There was still some open water on the main part of the lake where the full wind hit, but all the bays had been well covered for quite a while.
Just as I broke through to water, a pressure crack boomed across the bay, starting out near the open water a hundred yards or more away and running right through that hole I had just chopped. Put my stomach up in my neck for a second. Had to do some fancy talking to convince the rest of the family it was still a good day for ice fishing.
Perfectly normal occurrence, and I'd experienced them on smaller waters, but the sound and feel of one on a lake the size of Monroe was something to get my attention, too 8^)

You just float right over the top!
