I was really glad to see bobcats show up on my families property in Greene Co. a couple years ago. Whenever I check the trail cams I don't know if I'm more excited to see a big buck or if the bobcats are still making an appearance. My first known pic is from Sept. '11 and I didn't get any other pics until Dec. '11. In 2012 I did not get any pics. Mainly because my trail cam crapped out on me in late July/early August. I never did go buy a new one to finish the year out with and I really regret that. My sister and bro in law got me a nice Eyecon for Christmas in '12 and I was chomping at the bit to get it out in the field for the '13 season. Started running the camera in late April of last year which proved to be the ideal time. I was able to watch the bucks grow all throughout the season. I didn't land any bobcat pics until October. The last pic I got was in November. I feel like these 4 pics are gems in my collection of trail cam pics. I really hope that the population for the bobcats does well enough that we'll see a season for them in the future. I have another pic from a different cam but it's tough to tell if it actually is a bobcat so I don't count it. I think it is but not 100% sure. Both of my cams are still out in the field and haven't been checked since mid December. I'm off this weekend so I'll head over that way tomorrow and pull both of them. After that severe cold we had I'm guessing the batteries are done for anyway.

Finally got some new pics for an update. I knew the cats were still around as they have made appearances on my bro in laws cam and I finally got to see one in the wild during the gun opener last month. It didn't stick around long enough for me to take a pic or get video of. Here's the most recent. This is probably the best pic so far. Got 2 in one pic and it's daytime! These next 2 pics aren't that good of quality. The first one you can make out the cat for sure. The second one is more difficult. Do bobcats not have a fear of yotes? This cam is on a 6 shot burst. They just sat there as the yote just walked off. It's funny because you can see their heads turn as it walks away.

Sweet! I know they are in my area but have never got one on a camera. What kind of setup would be good? Field edges, or deer trails, fencerows, deep woods, around ponds? I have a variety of habitat types nearby - anybody have suggestions? I have seen them cross the road at night near my place, both times where there is a narrow strip of woods coming up to the road on either side.

I have a variety of habitat types nearby - anybody have suggestions? I have seen them cross the road at night near my place, both times where there is a narrow strip of woods coming up to the road on either side. The bobcats on my families property have their "home" in some deep woods. It's tough to get access to. I also believe it is on the property to the north as well. We had our woods logged out back in '07 or '08 and as a result we have a nice trail that cuts through one section now. I keep a cam near the entrance to a field as a lot of wild life uses this trail. The pic with the 2 cats in it is next to what I call the "highway". All kinds of traffic through here. There's an old cow pond hidden within those trees that is visited quite often. It spills out into a ditch that runs down along the right side from where the camera is. It's really thick along the ditch line so a lot of the animals will use it to navigate into and out of the woods. The cam will catch animals moving north and south on the highway or it catches them as they've made their way up out of the ditch and heading towards the pond. I did have the cam mounted on a tree on the opposite side but I had to move it due to its setup. I had it low on the only good tree I could use and a coyote decided to investigate it one night. I want to move it back over there but I'll need to clear some stuff out of the way first. I'm glad I had that cam on video mode when the yote visited.

Normally I don't get any cat pics until deer season rolls in but one just happened in front of the cam a few days ago. I normally don't have a cam where this was taken but dad thinks he seen a badger roaming behind their house so we set up one of my cams there. This might be 100 yards behind their house. Note the first pic is of a regular cat. The second pic is of the bobcat and is closer to the cam but there is still a noticeable size difference between the 2 cats.
