First off I didn't have to wade into a foot of muck to put out decoys. I got to sit on the bank of a small stream with my dog at my side and her head laying on my lap. We watched a half dozen ducks pass overhead and fly out of sight and seen the sun rise. The best part is I don't have any birds or gun that I need to clean. You know guys, in my book, there are some days it just don't get any better than that.

What a great way to spend time. And to think we who hunt are killers and ruthless in the ways of horrible torture to the critters of the wild. Myself, I have sat in my blind in the middle of a field and birds coming in and just walking around in the decoys and never reaching for the gun. There are times when to shoot and when not to, just sit there and enjoy the show. Nature at it's best.

I'm sure this one day will be made up by the number of skunky days I'll have come January. By then I'll be itching to pull the trigger on anything that flies. I do admit I also like those days when I come home with a limit.

But just one better was our last morning hunt in Canada, 59 birds. But that was a mixed bag of ducks and geese and it took just a bit longer then our 40 bird morning.
