;D4 guys.... 16 mallards... 2 shovelers.... 1 pintail.... and yes... one WIDGEON!!! Now.. she is a hen.. but she still a widgeon and im am JACKED!! . Lets lay this out.... before this weekend... i had never killed a shoverler,.. a pintail... nor a widgeon.... (first pintail came last night)
Now... to tell the story....
.. Everybody met up at my house this mornin at 4:45... except for the 15 year old.. had to go pick him up. Then we were off to the field. We grab the decoys.. make the march about 100 yards down a fence row, standin corn on both sides.. get back in there and it opens up to about 2 acres of pond.. where the water had receded about 10 feet all the way around it was just mud and feathers all the way around the pond(basically flooded field) ... Set the layout blinds in the tall grass between the mud and standin corn in some tall weeds( where water was last year, couldnt plant this year) . Set out 3 dozen GHG Full bodies.. about a 2 dozen mallard, gadwall, and wigeon floater. And boy did we go to work. The overcast kept any ducks from comin too early... about 10 minutes after shootin time was up.. HERE THEY COME!! But perfectly... 2 mallards... a group of 2 mallards and one wigeon.. and then boy did it rain ducks! By 8:20 we were all done... sure we coulda waited to try and pick out soem more oddballs... but i wanna hunt it again one mornin this week so we got out.. As we were halfway to the truck... about 80 come dumpin in 3 big flocks.. come on wednesday !
