I'm only a couple years into waterfowling, and bought my first shotgun in January. Stoeger 2000... inexpensive, but got mostly very good reviews everywhere I looked.
We normally go with size 3 steel for ducks and 2 for geese. Since I've been following my friends' lead and don't have a ton of my own experience to go on, I wondered what everyone else plans to shoot.

Shot size depends largely on the conditions I'm hunting and the birds I expect to take.
Early season woodies, teal, and close in mallards get a one oz. dose of steel 6's. As season wears on I'll move to 4's and 2's. I find the better "educated" mallards don't finish as well in the decoys and leave me longer shots, so the 4's and 2's give much better range.
Geese will BB's or BBB's, although I have taken many with 4's while in a duck blind.
I've been known to break out the 6's when the only divers we were seeing were Buffies, and the 6's can be a great swatter load. Just keep in mind that you don't want to be shooting beyond 25 yards on big ducks with them.

I've switched to Kent Fasteel #1's for both. I still use #6 Federals I get from Wal-Mart for Teal and finish shots on criples. I found the Kent at Bass Pro for $1 more a box than Remington Sportsman, and $1 less a box then Winchester Expert.

I use 1's or BB's for everything. I don't do all that shell switching while I am out hunting.

2's will kill 'em all..... If I'm only going for geese I'll go down to a BB or BBB, but if you might have either-or dropping into your set up just load up with 2's and let 'em have it!

I've been using Kent Fasteel 3.5" #3 for Ducks and 3.5" BB for Geese out of my 3.5" gun.
Winchester Supreme 3" BB's have worked well for geese this early season.
Both with Patternmaster Choke tubes.

I think everyone pretty well has it covered.... I like to use 3" 2's on all my ducks, and also shoot geese with them like mentioned above, when I know I'll have a mixed bag come in I'll shoot all 2's. When I am goose hunting only, I use 3.5" BB. I use mostly all Winchester Expert Hi-Velocity shells. I took a couple of cases of Remington Sportsman's to Canada with me and hated every stupid shell I shot.... Those things are complete junk!! No consistent pattern on them!! Kent Fasteel is another excellant shell, if I didn't shoot Winchesters, that's what I would be using. I've had alot of problems with Federals, either jamming in the gun every now and then, and also had 2 misfires on them in the past, so no Federal for me. For teal season, I like to use 3" 4's for a wider pattern, and use mostly an IC choke, also use the IC on ducks, and a IC or IM for geese, really just depends on how the shell patterns with the choke, so make sure and try all combinations at different yardage, like 20-40 yards and see what patterns best with each choke. Good luck!

Mixed bag of shells. Typically like Kent faststeel in 3.5" BBs for it all but still burning up odds and ends BBB-4s

Both with Patternmaster Choke tubes. I love a patternmaster shot to the head at under 10 yds. ;D

I use 3 inch 2's for almost everything except late season geese. That down is tough to get shot through. I use BB or BBB, or heavy shot in Dec/Jan

I'm sure everyone already knows...but those of you using the new Black Cloud, you're not supposed to shoot it through the patternmaster or wad wizard type choke tubes. The wad on them is different and can get caught in those tubes and cause your barrel to get plugged. Just thought I'd mention it!
