I was luckey enough to take a large buck during firearms season 5 years ago that scored 169 2/8 b& c . it was taken with a muzzeloader. even thou it was taken during firearms would it still qualfy for the muzzelloader record book and if so what should i do. Just so u know when i had it scored i was not gona have it put in (the book) because i felt i did not need my name in the book. it was explaned to me that the book is about the animal and to reconise the atributes of the animal and that ur name is put with it to conferm how the critter came to be in the book . with that in mind i feel that if it qialifies for muzzelloading it should be placed there to show what can be accomplished with a muzzelloader

Would qualify for Indiana's Hoosier Big Buck Record Book (Minimum 140") Also there is a Naional Muzzelloader long Gun Record Book. I think they have a 140" minimum also? You can d a web search and get the contct info. Indiana Deer hunter's Assoc. run's the Hoosier Big Buck program.

You could enter it in the Hoosier Record Book program though.

Dont think that will qualify for any of the MZ specific books .... they tend to be for more of the traditional stuff.

I took one a couple of years ago with my Savage and smokeless and got it scored for the MZ book and the scorer said it would be no problem then a month later I received my application and money back from the longhunter's book saying that it was denied due to using smokeless powder. It is in the Hoosier book .

thanks for posting the picts.i will relive the account as to how i got this deer.
I worked a 2 to 10:30 am shift at the time. i had wed befor thanksgiveing off for my birthday and was gona hunt for does but it was suposto rain all day so i figured after work on tuesday i would set up blind, rush home shower and go to another farm and hunt.but work was heavy and i was required to work 2 hrs overtime. after work i went and set up blind and figured i did not have the time to go home and make it to other farm so i had a stand there with wind out of wright direction and i always have gun and orange hat in truck so i figired i would sit in stand and scout for next day. I was in my work cloths. I work on a dock with no heat. I had on black jeans brown work coat and long johns. i climed in the stand and watched. i was on edge of a picked corn field with a very brushey dry creek (aprox 20 yds in spots) running threw the middle. after about 30 min i noticed a doe in far field about in front of the blind i had just placed. i felt this was a good sign for tomarrow. shortley after i noticed a deer very close to creek in far field. because of brush i could not tell what it was but did notice it was larger than other deer. figured it was big doe and other was yearling..i kept track of deer hopeing to get a shot. as i looked threw scope i noticed a horn and thought ok i might get to shoot a buck tonight but never got nerveice. after about 20 min of feeding closer the deer place its chest infront of an 8 inch hole in brush and i sqeezed the triger. the deer was knocked off its feet i saw it go over but could not see the deer because of brush.after reloading i got worroed because i had a buck go down couple years befor and got up and ran i never found. so i eased out of tree and back in woods to an atv trail then acc drycreek to fence being very stelthy watching the field. whem i reached the fence no deer.there is a bend in dry creek so i figured it went arround bend. i slipped over fence and eased my way watching arround bend. i noticed movement on creek bank. it was him standing looking at me. i pulled the gun up and as soon as i got brown in scope i fired. one jump and he was gone in brush again. i did notice blood around mouth so i new firstshot was good but did not know if double lung or not. i did not look at horns. figured could do that when he was down for the count. i reloaded the muzzeloader again and went to spot on creek to start tracking again i found little drops and smeers where he went thru brush. i followed it to picked corn field on other side and again no deer. i knew he made it to woods. at least 50 yds. i eased very quietly and kept watching for blood and in woods for him. about that time phone rings. it was a buddy hunting acc road asking what all the shooting was about. I said I JUST SHOT A BUCK WILL CALL U WHEN I FIND HIM. GOOD BY. i proceded acc corn.field and was about 20 yds from woods when he got up about 20yds in woods and took off again. i pulled gun up and fired again. i watched as he ran about 20 yds and went down. i started to reload when phone rang again same buddy saying he was comming over i.said east field good by. after finally finishing reloading. (i was pretty shook up by now) i eased in to woods and he was almost expired. i did not want to shoot again as i am a meat hunter so i left woods. but i had noticed he had a good set of horns. i had never shot any thing with more than 8 pts in 30 + years of hunting and i counted 10 so i was extremely happy. My buddy showed up shortley and we went to look. he started hollering u got a monster. I knew it was good but did not realise just how good. when we went to check it in a guy ask if he could measure a little. i said sure. and ask do u think it will go 140 in. he got this funney look on his face and said it will go 160. that is when i started to realise just how big he was. on a side note i tinker in taxidermy and i wanted a special mount for this deer. the second picture is my work and what i came up with. I know this was long. sorry but if i left any thing out it would detract from the story. i recovered all three bullets and they were not in good shape at all that is why i do not use them now.
