Quick question on orange requirement. After I shot my buck with a shotgun and located/tagged him,, I went back to my truck to gather up some assistance on getting him out of the woods. Before going back into the woods I prepared for the work by getting down to the bare minimum of clothing and did not put my orange vest back on to drag the deer out. Since we did not have a firearm with us,, did we need orange on while getting the deer out of the woods?

Yes. I have posted the Indiana Code below. A person is required to wear hunter orange as outlined by Indiana Code. The retrieval of the deer from the woods would be considered part of the chasing or pursuing a wild animal. Please read through the Indiana Codes posted below and they should better explain the requirements.
IC 14-22-38-7 Hunter orange (c) This subsection applies only during the season when hunting by firearms (as defined in IC 14-22-40-3) is permitted under 312 IAC. A person who hunts for: (1) deer by firearm or bow and arrow; (2) cottontail rabbit; (3) squirrel, unless from a boat, during the period: (A) beginning on the first Friday that follows November 3; and (B) ending on January 31 of the following year; (4) woodcock; (5) pheasant; (6) quail; or (7) ruffed grouse; must wear hunter orange.
IC 14-8-2-128 "Hunt" Sec. 128. "Hunt", for purposes of IC 14-22, means to take a wild animal except by trapping.
IC 14-8-2-278 "Take" Sec. 278. "Take" has the following meaning: (1) For purposes of IC 14-22, except as provided in subdivision (2): (A) to kill, shoot, spear, gig, catch, trap, harm, harass, or pursue a wild animal; or (B) to attempt to engage in such conduct.
