Yesterday , Jim and I spotted another successfull hunter during a scouting trip ...
Got out work late today .... just enough time to squeeze in a last try at those Canadian longecks ! ( I'll be tied up with work obligations that will keep me out of the field for the next 3 weeks ) ....
A quick cell call to " Wingmaster " Jim Close ... he says " I'm in " and I'm on my way to pick him up , in transit to a goose field Randy S. and I scoped out yesterday ...
Randy and I saw birds feed in this particular field , late after the storm blew through last night ... I asked the farmer for permission but he said 3 other guys beat us to it , and they were going to set up for a morning hunt ...
Anyway .... with minimal time today because of my late departure from work , we stopped by the farm again ... the farmer said no problem for an evening set up since no one else was coming ...
We took a gamble that the other crew had not hammered the birds too hard in the morning and threw our decoys out ...
Jim relaxes in his goose chair and watches the " nature channel " for the next hour or so ...
Judging by the human tracks and sign in the field and the fact that the 1st flocks of birds off the lake took " the long way around " , I figured they had been hit hard and wisend up since the a.m.
We did manage to get one small group interested and when they stopped in for a brief , fast paced fly by ... we grounded a pair !
And that was it ... we watched other distant flocks settle back to the lake and decided to pack it in early ...
The sky was getting nicely colored as we started to pack up ...
And by the time we had all the gear packed in the truck , the sky had painted a few more colors ...
Jim and I agreed .... " can't think of a better way to kill an hour or so after work , than a relaxing evening reclined in goose chair ! " ;D ;D ;D
Best of luck to the rest of you that will be chasing those longnecks , till the end of the early season ...
