So i hunted public land for the first time this weekend. Spent friday morining picking up trash that the disrespectful fishermen left all over the bank. Tonight i take my 8yr old daughter out for her first hunt of the year. Things started out great, i think she set the record for most rocks thrown in the water LOL So when it gets to prime time i notice a boat off to the right with two guys fishing probably 300yds away next thing i know they get closer and closer before you know it they are 50-75 yds out right in front of our spread. There is no way they did not see us we are stanidng on a beach right by the water blowing on goose calls just for the fun of it. Needless to say i was fumed trying to control myself not wanting to blow up on them in front of my daughter. I just could not believe how disrespectful they were they had the whole 200 acre lake and were right in front of us. We had to pick up and quit a half hour early. UNBELIEVABLE Did i mention there was no one else on the entire property Sorry i rambled but i am pis#@$

A few years back we had guys go past us and come back and fish IN our decoy spread. When the geese came in they were banging their boat and waving their arms trying to scare the birds. I missed dropping a 12 pounder on the guy's head by less than 4 feet........ I shot it just a little too late.

Yeah, You should see their faces when they are in their nice , pretty fiberglass boat fishing in your decoy spread, and you get in your old aluminum boat and pick up decoys and you hit their boat with your and scrape it. They really do not like that at all. We had that happen about 15 years ago, and we just accidently side swiped thier boat, put some nice scratches on their boat, my buddy pretended that he could not control the boat with the tiller handle. They started yelling, we laughed and told them it was just the same as them dragging our decoys with their lures on purpose. Never saw them again on that lake. Sorry to hear you problems, I would have called the c.o on them.

What corner were you at John? The thing about that place, it's all the same..... virtually the same depth, same amount of cover, weed beds, etc.. For them to be that disrespectful is pitiful. I know that later on when regular season comes in they put signs up for the fishermen to be respectful of the hunters.....

That is bad....I might of had to fire a warning shot so to speak....not the ethical thing to do but how disrespectful can they be??? You kept yourself level headed at least!

Been there on those Northern Lakes - very aggravating when another hunter decides to setup 150 yards away or have a fisherman come up and start casting in your dekes.

While its very disrespectful for them to do that you got to remember its public land. When I hunt public land I always expect the unexpected, like someone walking up on me or messing up my hunting set up, that way when it doesn't happen I had a good hunt.
If they moved your decoys you should have called a CO as that is hunter harassment.
You handled the situation better than i would have. If it had been me I would have made the water splash a few yards to the side of their boat and yelled "Damn, missed that one"! h.h.

Unfortunately where that is, is the only place to channel into the big part of the lake from the ramp area.....so a boat coming through would be expected, but they have the entire lake beyond that point to move into, so for them to stay right there where you were is unacceptable.

Wow, if you are done with public land after that then you haven't experienced a lot of the stupidity that goes on while hunting public land. Try having deer hunters park their boat 25 yds from your spread and the HUNTING from a treestand and facing your boat so that they're shooting at you. Shooting at birds 150 yds out and all of the other stupid things that stupid hunters do. After a while you just become immune to it.

I dont hunt public waters until atleast most of the boaters are off the lakes. BUT... i understand not everyone has private ground to rely on also. I know my grandpa gets frustrated at the duck hunters while he is tryin to fish on Dallas Lake in Lag. co the helll i catch for duck hunting even when i dont hunt that lake ha

I know where you are talking about and I can only repeat what these guys a telling you. It comes with the territory, I decided too that I would never go back but on special occasions. Too many other places to go and not worry about the guy who set up 80 yrds away or the fisherman who acts like a fool with guns surrounding them, shots ringing out.
It ain't worth it IMO either.
