Hey all. Just joined up...live in Indianapolis, 39 years old. Went on my first hunt at Big Oaks with my neighbor, who is a hunting vet, this spring (2013) for turkey and was immediately hooked. About to go out again next week for fall turkey (Yellowood,I think is where I will go-any thoughts on that?!) and in November for deer, hopefully on private land, but if not, maybe HNF. I only hunt with shotgun at this point, but hopefully by this time next year, I will have a bow (if the wife will let me, of course).
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to learning the ropes. Happy hunting.
J.

Hello willyjaybob ...gotta love that name. Welcome to HI.
I also started in spring 2013 with turkey and was hooked. I will not fall turkey hunt, but already excited for the spring. I've been shooting squirrels, but looking for deer this week. I use a crossbow and like it a lot, but it wasn't an expensive. I'd like to know what it's like to shoot a nice one.
I can't imagine you needing any advice since you're smart enough to get your wife's approval on a bow. Hey, I can afford the new bow; I just can't afford the divorce!
It's really nice to see new hunters excited about the sport. It's even nicer to see the old farts excited. I live on the south side of Indy in Greenwood. If you ever want to meet for a cup of coffee let me know.

Thanks for the welcome, fellas. Jon, I have shot my neighbor's 1k+ crossbow and man, is it sweet! So, just so I understand, did you call me an 'old fart?'! haha. Not yet, man!

I'm the old one, but new hunter. I'm 53 now, but feel like a kid with a new toy. I'm really interested in that crossbow. If I were serious about getting one, I'd go test-fire some. It's funny that I'd even be interested in a good one. It's just the fact that they exist. My shoots good; what more should I want??? Really, the only thing that I don't like about mine is the heavy trigger, but they may all be this way. Are you wanting a bow or crossbow? I'd love to hear about that turkey hunting trip.
