I signed up for a waterfowl hunt at Monroe Res and was successful, but I don't know how this works.
On the results page it says "Hunt Order/choice - 6"; what does that mean? Are there designated hunting areas? Will I need a boat? Have to be in a party of three? (Do I bring 2 others or are they assigned by someone with the reserve hunt?)
Also, since I don't know anyone who hunts waterfowl, would anyone here be interested in going so I have a full party?
If anyone could enlighten me as to how this works, I'd appreciate it.
In case it isn't obvious, I have never hunted waterfowl (Only deer and squirrel), but have always been interested.

I would assume you're spot six for picking a spot.
What day(s) is the hunt?
I'm local and I'm interested in waterfowl hunting, but have never been either.

The date of the hunt is 11/12/2013.
Okay, so I think they have places set up for hunting already, so the 6th party to pick a spot.

However, I'm new, so I sure understand if you want to go with an experienced hunter. You are still more than welcome to use my boat if you want.

Choice 6 means you will be the 6th group to pick your hunt location. Most of the time there is people that don't show,, so you will probably get bumped up a number or 2. Just make sure you are on time for registration,, cause if you are late,, then your spot goes open. You must bring atleast 1 person with you,, as you cant hunt alone. Groups of 2 or 3 hunters are a must! Look on the registration instruction sheet and it will tell you your registration time,, which is most likely at 5:30,, but look it up to make sure!!

At Monroe you'll have 6th pick of blinds, which you have to hunt out of their pre-built blinds. There are only a couple without blinds. If you take a boat you'll want a small 10'-12' boat and nothing more. It's definitely a lazy man spot as they'll drive you on a tractor and trailer to within 20 yards of your blind. There is not a far walk in the place, but it can also be really hard hunting. The blinds are not spread very far apart, so if you have another blind calling too hard or sky blasting, then you're going to have a tough hunt. When it's on, it's really on, and it can be a fund place to hunt. I've shot my limit down there several times. For regular hunt you have to have 3 people to a party. Any less than 3, and you pick last. Not sure how the reserve works, but for some reason I'm thinking you can have 2 or 3 for reserves. Check that, because Monroe is almost always 3, no more no less for regular draw. All the reserves at Monroe are EVENING HUNTS, so your draw will be at 10:30 AM, Shooting begins with a siren at noon, and ends at sunset. It's best to plan to be there at 10am. If you need someone to make up your group let me know! I'm pretty experienced down there.

you have to have a party of 3 at Monroe or they wont honor the reserve
i was there saturday to help brush up the blinds. we saw 5 ducks.
they was just starting to flood the marsh. most of the corn they planted looked poor at best.

Do they have a place for you to sit in their blinds? What all would one need to take? Do people actually get 3 hunters in a 10' boat?

There are approximately 24 hunting spots, but only 14 or so have any sort of actual blind from which to hunt. With a reserve draw though, you should get an established blind pretty easy. As a new waterfowler, I would recommend you take one in the main marsh. Try blinds six, five, three, ten or nine in that order as they all have corn around them this year. These are all nice, framed blinds with wooden benches provided. At minimum you'll need a dozen floating mallard decoys, waders, and a 12 gauge(properly plugged and steel shot only). You should be aware the hunting there last year was pretty tough and there were very few birds taken in November. Still, the guys that run it are terrific and they will go out of their way to help you have a good time.

The blinds have a bench in them, but I usually move that to set my blind bag on, and sit in lawn chairs. All but one blind has shallow water paths to get to them. We sometimes take a 10' boat to use to haul our gear and/or dog.
