I saw on another site that someone had found some puffballs. I thought that it was a little early for them, but then again--- my memory ain't what it once was!

You can remember it is not what it used to be?

I use to pick them out of the yard when my wife was mowing and toss them right in front of the mower and scare her!

Love em! Have not found any yet! I have not found any fresh corals or oysters either.

Giving this thread a good kick in the pants...
Fried one up for my daughter and myself last week. Little bit bigger than a softball. It was pretty good, but sliced a hair too thick, probably about 3/8" slices. Will try for a little less than 1/4" slices next time.

Just the usual egg/milk bath and dredge with seasoned flour cooked in hot bacon grease. I think thinner will be better. We like our mushrooms a little crunchy and the puffball was a bit too meaty sliced thicker.

It's been way too dry around here for much of any kind of fall mushroom hopefully with this rainy weather the last couple of days I'll be finding a few more "things"....even though I'm still learning!

That's what I thought too, but I found hen of the woods that were all dried up. I should have been looking around the first of October.....

I usually look for them when football season starts, about two weeks into it but haven't found a single one. Maybe they are a little late this year. I sure like frying up a big slice of one and putting on top of a Deer burger with Swiss cheese on it.

Wife started finding chants and chicken of the woods this summer. We didn't get any fall mushrooms but I really liked the ones we found this summer.
I like the chanterells better than morrels. Easier to find too!
