Oh my. That is a bad deal for sure. I'm sure the dogs were tied up, so they were defenseless. They couldn't even run away. The picture of that little dog was horrific!

No, the dogs were not tied up, they were running hare with the dogs (beagles), one of the wolves actually had a staredown with one of the hunters.

Were they just running the dogs or hunting? IOW - were they armed?

That is unfortunate but I would say if your running or hunting in an area with wolves it's a risk you take. Being an avid outdoorsmen and hunter I can see how some would want to get rid of wolves etc or at least that particular pack yet I hope it doesn't turn into a vendetta the wolves have there place just we do in the order of things.
