Im sure some of you may have some of the problems i run into. I am a fan of not upsetting too many people when it comes to waterfowl hunting. I like to get along with about everyone and seem to do so pretty well. But every year i run into hunting situations that upset neighbors, home owners ( public lakes) .. Most of the time i will avoid situations if at all possible unless its soemthin really stupid that they are complainin about then i dont let it bother me. But this grass field i have posted about.. is just off of a big lake and is about 4 acres i would say. Its legal... not in city limits... and o boy is it holdin geese... BUT... across the road to 2 sides are houses that sit on the lake... you can only shoot to the south... but that way is completely safe.. no houses.. infact there is a big woods. But it is close to houses in about any other direction. Heres the catch... we have had permission the last 2 years but have chickened out.. this year the guy told us if we dont hunt it... " dont ask again i will get someone that will" I just KNOW someone will come out there and say somethin(probably a laker behind us). The land owner does live righ there amongst the houses and is supposedly the guy who kinda runs the association... but man..... i just dunno..i know this is hard to explain( settin of the field) but it would be 100% safe... if not .. i woudlnt consider it.. but man do i wanna do it bad i just little leary... what ya think? P.S. we have contacted the dnr.. they say we "game on"

If you have been given clearance from the DNR, do it. If you are bothered by people, contact your local CO and have him hunt with you.

Hunt it. What the worst thing that can happen? Go for it. Just my opinion.

Hunt it.
Be sure you stay legal and safe. So all of your ducks are in a row when the CO's / Sheriff show up. They will check you and probably let you go about your hunt.

Good idea stillwater! Let the DNR know at least that you will be hunting it and that way they will be prepared for any possible calls, etc. This really is a no brainer, if the landowner is all for it, and you were cleared by the DNR, man it is game on!!! And by the way, what time should I arrive!!! ;D

If the local ICO has give you the 'go ahead' then by all means go ahead. If/When the neighbors come to chat. BE NICE, POLITE, FRIENDLY, and CLAM. Being nasty and belligerant (sp) does nothing but give hunters and sportsmen a bad name. Plus all it would do is esclate the situation.

Would a pre-emptive talk with the neighbors help?
Let them know that you WILL be hunting these waterfowl at the request of the landowner. Maybe set some guidlines up such as no shooting before a certain time in the morning, etc..
The sudden unexpected BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, especially early in the morning is not a good stage setter for amiable talks.
Good luck and let us know how you make out..

Stole my solution Woody!
If I were worried like you are you might consider making a letter and either hand delivering it to the nearby homes, or dropping it in their mailboxes. Explain who you are, what will be happening, and the safety precautions you will be taking. Make sure you mention the necessity of goose management in neighborhood areas.
Another option: If their neighborhood is like ours, we get a monthly newsletter from our Home Owner's Association. Talk to the HOA President and try to get your information into that newsletter. It might be a lot of hoops to jump through, but I'm sure you will be more at ease that first morning if you've attempted to let those homes that are bordering the lake know that you aren't just sky busting, and you have THEIR welfare in the forefront of your hunting.

I have hunted some pretty tight quarters and hated it. It really takes away from the hunt IMO. But informing the neighbors will definately give you the upper hand on any potential situation besides no one likes suprises. I would also talk with the local sheriff or town cop. They will most likely be the ones who respond to reports of gun fire, not the CO.

You've crossed all the t's and dotted the i's and if you don't hunt it you're gonna lose it anyway - go for it. If there are geese there give a whirl - I'm sure the residents love geese crapping all over their lawn and some of them will be glad that you're taking care of this nuisance over population of geese.

There might just be an ICO on this site that would join you if you need the company. Dave, you off this weekend?
