I thought I'd give an update on my attempt at a honey hole food plot... My son and I have done a pretty good job at killing off all the weed cover and removing a TON of dead sticks and tree bark to expose the topsoil. 10 days ago I tossed down a handful of rye/brassica mix just to see what would happen and it's came up NICE, keeping in mind we had a TON of rain to help it along over the past week. The rye is 3-4" tall and you can see the brassica sprouts coming up too but those are just 1/2" high. We've got a little more raking to do at one end to remove the dead stuff, and I need to do another pass of roundup at the far end as there was a bunch of grasses that aren't totally dead. Since there's no rain in the forecast I'm gonna hit that with w/ Roundup today and it should be good to plant by the time the rain comes back into the forecast. Here's a pic of the plot..... it runs East to West and the canopy to the South has really been cut back so when the sun starts to fall into that Southern sky later in the year it should really get some sunlight in there. A deep creek sits along the left side of the photo. The entire plot is about 125 yards in length now.

Update: I couldn't be happier with my results so far! There are a few areas of our plot that the sun just isn't getting to, so I haven't seen the growth like the rest of the plot, but for the most part the entire section of woods has a nice green carpet of rye and oats coming up. There are turnip sprouts everywhere as well! If it were a lawn I'd definitely need to be mowing the grass!!! We've gotten pics/video of multiple different bucks coming to the plot now and grazing on the green...many are daytime visitors also. It seems like every time we get a good rain the plot just takes off even more, so let it rain!!! I can't wait to see how thick this stuff is in October/November! For as little as we could do to prep the ground, I'm VERY happy with the Throw N Grow mix!!!!
