If you provided a email address with your application you should have received the below email from the DNR. They say there seems to have been some misunderstanding regarding the issue of partners or "buddies" and their participation in this goose reduction at Summit Lake. I say the only misunderstanding is on their part in the way their instructions were presented. I also believe they should let the original applications stay as submitted and let the applicant, if drawn, submit the names of their buddies prior to the hunt.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUMMIT LAKE STATE PARK GOOSE REDUCTION HUNT
Thank you for applying for the September 2007 goose reductions at Summit Lake State Park. Please note that this email is NOT a notification that you have been drawn for one of the reductions. It is an important message that you may need to respond to in order to participate in the drawing.
As you may know, state park reductions are different than other DNR hunts. Where most other DNR reserved hunts are recreational in nature, state park reductions are highly-controlled events to ensure safety for participants and property visitors, and to achieve effective reductions of a specific wildlife population.
There seems to have been some misunderstanding regarding the issue of partners or "buddies" and their participation in this goose reduction at Summit Lake. It looks as if some of you have applied expecting to be able to bring "buddies" with you to the reduction, but many did not include those names on your application. According to the emergency rule that authorizes the goose reduction at Summit Lake State Park, only individuals that are successfully drawn can legally participate. That means that if you filed an application and are drawn, you can participate along with any buddies you listed on your application. However, buddies cannot just show up with you on the morning of the hunt - their names must have been on the application form. Remember, this is different than the standard waterfowl drawings that take place at Fish & Wildlife Areas because these are controlled reductions for a specific management purpose - they are not intended as recreational hunts.
Because we think some of you may have not realized that all your buddies' names need to be included on your application for this state park goose reduction, we are extending an opportunity for you to clarify your application and intentions regarding partners.
WHAT TO DO:
If you and someone else who has already applied for the September Summit Lake Goose Reductions would like to be included as a group, please indicate this by emailing mmycroft@dnr.IN.gov with the information requested below by midnight EDT Sunday, August 19. Please indicate who is to be designated as the primary applicant and who should be considered "buddies." (Up to three partners are allowed for a total of four in a single group). Be sure to include all names, addresses, and dates of birth as they were placed on original applications. Please note, no individual name can appear in the system more than once, regardless of whether it is for primary applicant or buddy status.
Just to reiterate, if you are drawn for one of the goose reductions at Summit Lake, you cannot just show up on the morning of the hunt with buddies whose names were not included on your application.
We appreciate this additional effort on your part to help us make the reductions as safe and effective as possible, and we apologize for any confusion.

That is stupid unless i missed it there was no where on the online application to put down the names of your buddies.
So if one guy signs up and has no buddies he is the only one to hunt that area. Does not do much for a reduction hunt if that is the case.

I missed it too John, and I guess most everyone else did too for the IDNR to send out this e-mail. We need to get together and see who is on who's list so we can get the application back to them.

As I understand it if you sign up your 3 buddies that is the only sign up they get. So if you don't get drawn they don't either. If they sign up for the draw personally and then sign up under your name their name is DQ'd. Seems to be working against the whole point of a reduction.

It's hard to see how such a simple process can get so screwed up. Now I'm wondering what the hunts going to turn out to be like. I think I'll just go to my own little part of the world and let the guys who are drawn chase them out to me.
