So last fall I got a letter in the mail from the US Department of the Interior on behalf of the Fish & Wildlife Service asking me to keep track of my waterfowl harvests. They sent some sheets of paper that had me accurately keep track of what I harvested. Luckily I already keep an excel spreadsheet that lists every hunt I've been on since 2006. It also lists everyone I've hunted with, what they killed, location, weather, and notes. It's a great reference each year. Anyway, I did their survey and sent it in expecting that to be the end of it. This is all on volunteer basis. Well I get another letter in the mail asking if I'd be part of the survey again, except now they want me to send one wing of each bird I harvest. I guess this helps them determine age, sex, etc.
Now does anyone have any experience with this, and how much of a pain is it sending in all these wings? I don't mind doing it, but I want to make sure it's not going to be a huge hassle. I talked with family out in MO, and they said they've hunted with guys that have done it, and it was a huge hassle. Anyone here currently doing this, or have done this in the past?

I did it for about 7 years and then I told them to find somebody else however they kept sending the bags for another 2 years. Every year after the season is over they will send you a list of the species you turned in and sometimes the interesting thing is they will tell you that a certain bird was a hi-bred which was kind of strange because none of the birds I ever sent in looked like a hi-bred.

Good for you guys!
It's probably best to do what they want or you might get audited, wire tapped by the NSA or end up on a FBI watch list ...Oh, I forgot, it's probably going to happen anyway, so just keep the bags for extra storage. :-)

Done it before, not a big deal to me. I sent them in as needed. Recently been asked to do surveys for things I don't typically hunt, not sure what that is about.
