I have been testing new loads and chokes with my Remington 870 and while the results are not bad I still am on the hunt for better results. What are everyones opinions on choke tubes from patternmaster? Particcularly looking at the extended range tube yet man that $100 price tag sure is a heart stopper. I am looking to have a choke tube on hand that I can use for crow and waterfowl and a choke I can have on hand for coyote. I already have the coyote choke issue solved but not yet the perfect crow/waterfowl choke. Searching for an affordable Improved modified extended choke. So feel free to begin your comments now.

Never used one of their chokes - $100, that's more than I'd be willing to put in one.

You wouldn't want the same choke for long range work on crows AND on waterfowl. For one uses steel shot and the other uses lead shot. Otherwise, Patternmaster chokes are very good chokes. If the money is too much pick another tube out of the hundreds available for the Rem. barrels.

I could use the same choke for both when using my standard hevi shot loads which despite price have patterned and performed very well. I have yet to find a steel load I like very well. But I will always take advice and listen to the knowledge passed on.

I could be wrong, but isn't a steel load required for waterfowl?

I'd use lead 5s or 6s for crows. Hevi is too expensive unless you really hate crows.

Steel is not required for waterfowl only the use non toxic non lead shot is required. Such as hevi shot or other composites etc. Just no lead. As far as hevi shot expense for crow yes it's overkill but use it as test period to work up loads for waterfowl season. Will try out your loads to see how they do for this summer season.
