Yeah, cattle pastures and cattle ponds are always good early season, the geese will eat the grain right out of cow patties! One of our best spots used to be a cow pasture right along a major stream, and there was a big sand bank on the stream right next to the cow pasture. It was always a good early season spot. Now it's in city limits!

Unless the farmer puts the best hunting spot off limits to the cows. Used to have a honey hole simular to Matt's but the farmer fenced off the back part allowing the grass to grow=no geese and limited doves. The geese would use the regular pasture but with no rhyme or reason and impossible to get a good hide.

Cut them off of the source, pump it to some automatic waterers, instant water quality impacts. 80% cost share. Crappy hunting.

Yep, a state funded survey of that watershed yeilded a few pics of that exact pasture noting the impairments caused by the cattle. A year later and the reed canary grass was head high. Can't win for losing...

Openin day 2 years ago me and a buddy hunted his lease in a pasture across from a wheatfield. Pond was frickin lahoooodddddeeeddd!! We showed up right about daylight.. set up our decoys and got our cut out cow blind out. Our feet were hot after dragging all our crap out there and setting up so we stuck them in the water to cool them off. We killed 4-5 but I think we were flaring birds. If we had some sense we would have hunted 5-6 guys on this pond ESPECIALLY openin day. Probably should have asked the guys in the wheatfield to quit laughing and hunt with us.
