Here we go again......
— Allowing the use of the draw-loc device when deer hunting.
If you want to use a crossbow use one.
— Adding a new primitive muzzleloader season.
If you want to hunt with a primitive m/l...you already can.
— Adding 15 days to the deer archery season without crossbows.
Allowing 15 days of bowhunting in September serves no practical purpose and IMHO, appears to be nothing more than a bone thrown to those who didn't want crossbows in the archery season and don't care for the youth season.
Am I surprised by any of this? Nope...Apparently it's "payback" time........
I do find it interesting that some of the people supporting the new proposals (and two additional seasons) are the very same people who have vehemently complained about too much pressure on the herd @ the current time. Go figure.....
Why not let the current regs run for 5 seasons, gather and analyze the data and make changes @ that time (if necessary).
Regardless.....whether you agree/disagree with the proposal(s), we should let our friends/family and fellow hunters know what is being discussed and ask them to comment.

Here we go again...... — Allowing the use of the draw-loc device when deer hunting. If you want to use a crossbow use one. I won't comment on the other proposals, but this one does make sense. If crossbows are legal, may as well legalize draw-locks, as they function in the same manner and should have been included when crossbows were legalized. I'm not a fan of crossbows or draw-locks, but I can see where if one is allowed, the other should be too.

I would assume that they will be considered the same as crossbows and only allowed when crossbows are. Quite true.. I had a big enough fight getting crossbows approved without the added baggage of Draw Locs. I see no reason now that crossbows are legal that Draw Locs can't also be legal. There is a vertical crossbow that is a real shooter that fits the Draw Loc description but does not make the minimum crossbow poundage requirement. It shoots right at 330 fps. The minimum crossbow poundage need revisiting. It was put in place to keep out underpowered crossbows but with technological advancements there are some crossbows that don't meet that poundage but casts a 425 grain arrow at 330 fps

Thanks Woody. I agree on the draw-locs. I'm back to something approaching normal with my compound now, but might still appreciate something to help steady the shot and overcome the target panic that has plagued me lately. I expect a draw-loc would be just the ticket for me personally, and I also can't see any logic in denying them while admitting the crossbow. Also agree on the crossbow draw weight restriction being unnecessary and unrealistic. At least two of the reverse-draw crossbows on the market have performance levels well into the accepted normal range when using 90# peak draw weight limbs and the longer power strokes.
I think I'll give them my input online. Either actual meeting would be a minimum of 2 1/2 hours drive and a bit over $25 bucks worth of gas, round trip. Enjoyed attending a few such meetings years ago, but the efficiency of the electronic option available now is too great a lure.

I understand that there was only one person at one of the meetings and 5 at the other. No one spoke in favor of the additional seasons.
I doubt that the NRC and DNR will be doing a whole lot more of these public meetings. They will probably just rely on emails.

According to "another site" the proposals have been approved. What have you heard, Woody?

Not "approved" as of yet. It says - "The final report is expected to be presented to the NRC to request final adoption of the rule changes at its meeting on July 16." It will be accepted or rejected at that meeting.
Maybe instead of posting "yes it has been approved" he should have posted "yes it will be approved". Even though there is overwhelming opposition to it.
Last analysis I did of the NRC input file it was:
13% in favor of the vertical only season
27% in favor ONLY IF CROSSBOWS ARE ALLOWED TOO.
60% against it completely.

There was a post on the Indiana Whitetails Facebook page yesterday saying this was a done deal.
It would be nice if folks would wait for the final vote before they start spreading misinformation. Seems to be somewhat of a common issue with some of the local group Facebook pages concerning DNR announcements and such.

If you are a member there relay what the DNR sent me when I asked if this was approved yet...... Will the NRC go against what the DNR and 87% of the respondees to the input request asked for? Toss up..... .

I said nothing was official yet and even if approved the change(s) wouldn't go into affect until next season.
