Took a Sunday drive today down to The Kank.... Packed the better ½,, the cooler,,, and the dog into the gas saver and we were off!!!!. Was a great Sun trip. Not alot of ducks there,, but us boyz up north know what can be seen here. No doubt on the right day there will be 10,000+ ducks seen here. Here is a few pics I took along the way. They are not letting any water in yet,, this is all summer levels. Just imagine 4' of water along with the tree's. The road says 10 mile cause its 5 miles down and 5 miles back,,, Kankakee river on 1 side and the Yellow river on the other. They pull the Yellow into the middle and flood the 5 miles of wood and swamp ;D ;D ;D

Lots of purple loosestrife, good for pics, bad for most everything else. Do look good though!

Awesome looking place but man I cringe at the thought of hunting it due to the stupidity of some of the people that hunt there.

Awesome looking place but man I cringe at the thought of hunting it due to the stupidity of some of the people that hunt there. The blinds are far enough apart that there is no worries. I have my own rig and can get anywhere I want to hunt. But a trip to the Kank is always a must atleast 1 time a year. Its a hit or miss deal though. Some years you just flat out cant beat a day there any where else in Indiana. When you see flocks of 500-1000 birds fly past you and you get 55 of them out of the pack and they decoy right in,, it makes a person come back. I never go down without a reserve anymore. But I used to head there alot and try to draw before I bought my boat. Usually the guys that know how to work birds and have the proper set-ups will do the best. And knowing the park helps also. Its must atleast once each year,, even for seasoned guys ;D ;D ;D

As I said, it's a wonderful place but the last time I hunted it, I hunted 4-Y on a reserve (not a very good pick maybe the mid teens to low 20s) and there was a blind maybe 150 yds away and they shot at anything and everything whether it was 75 yds up or 175yds up. I know this happens everywhere but that left a bad taste in my mouth after that experience.
Pigeon,
Did you do any good when you hunted the corn last year?

That purple loosestrife is bad stuff. It'll take over the marsh. You should show those pics to someone at KKK.

Pigeon, Did you do any good when you hunted the corn last year? We left with GOOSE EGGS It was a blue-bird day. Its a hit or miss place down there. But when it hits,,, IT REALLY HITS. I met and hunted with greghopper that day. So it was worth the trip. But a couple years ago we ran up probably 4000 birds while we were trying to find our blind in the dark. No doubt about the sky-busters there. That park supplies you with everything except decoys and guns. The day they stop giving out boats and blinds will turn things around for us serious guys. Last 2 years has been a bust for me. But that was justbad timing . I'll give it a try again this year. 3 years ago we had 4 great hunts in a row down there. ;D ;D ;D

If that doesn't happen in your normal hunting spots you are not hunting the right spots then ;D ;D ;D

I agree. You know, Eagle Creek is the best place to hunt in Central IN. ;-)
BTW Pigeon,
Is there any water in the walk-in units? I think Y-20 or 19...?

Eagle what? I know a guy who has all the geese there scouted out, yet never hunted.
Right Snake?
REally I was talking of Marion Co side of Geist, used to be tough getting my best spot but the last year it really opened up for me. You all are welcome to help me out any day.

He probably never hunted because the guys out that way have everything leased up. They're friends of ours and they have most fields throughout Hendricks Co.
