I acquired 2 free goose decoys today and they need to be painted? Is this possible or a lost cause? I figure that any savings is good, especially when trying to acquire more gear...

I'm assuming they are plastic??? If so, scrub 'em real good spic & span or a similar detergent, then wipe them down with acetone. The new paint should stick fairly well. If you need any help, let me know....

Its funny that you ask...I have a feeling that I may never hear the end of this one. ;D ;D I am not convinced that they aren't yard ornaments!! Do you guys want to see a picture or two? ;D

Prepare by sanding or cleaning to remove encrusted dirt, scale & loose paint. Patch cracks, checks for shot damage. Styrofoam or blow up decoys can be primed with decoy paint body color. Other decoys should be primed with a universal primer it must be dry before applying top coat. Deep or dark decoy colors may need multiple coats.
Repearing Decoys Fixing holes. Find some decoy cord that melts. Heat the cord and dab it on the holes. it blends in well.
Krylon 1311 Matt Finish spray your decoys with 2 coats. If your decoys get a lot of abuse give them up to 4 coats Then respray them each year before then season. a light coat of non-glare Armour-All will bring out the colors and create a sheen that ducks have when on the water.

Paint em up my friend! What dekes are they? They are actually Carry-Lites....I think one resting and one feeder. They are relatively soft as well, not like a Feather flex, but softer than plastic shells.

I saw that Krylon has a new paint out that is SUPPOSED to bond to plastic with no chipping/flaking....with no prep work other than cleaning. It might be worth giving that a try. Here's the stuff: tinyurl.com/2suzg
