www.hayescalls.com/Don't let the price fool you. The hayes calls are great and excellent customer service too. I also have some heartland calls and they are nice.

Buck Gardner Calls, what else would you blow!? Are you just starting out? If so, you want a call with alot of built in back pressure, and a longer style call with a smaller bore is what you are looking for, this is the Canada Hammer call, you can get a poly call with a hand shaved reed for $24.99 at your local Gander Mtn., or Sportsman's Warehouse. And I know right now down at the Greenwood Gander Mtn., they still have some acrylic Canada Hammers in the case by the guns for $34.99 which is a great deal for an acrylic call. If you get one and have time hit me up and we can meet and go over some basics and get the call tuned to you.

Don't laugh but: my favorite call that I have used for years is a KNIGHT AND HALE Double Cluck except I blow the call from the opposite end. It gives a nicer deeper sound and it's easy to blow.I do not inhale and exhale with it I only exhale. The call is short so it doesn't get in the way and it's cheaper.

For quality and ease of use, I started out with a Big River Long Honker. I still blow it from time to time. They are super easy to blow. The short shaved reeds are what I use now, but they take a lot more air and a lot more time to master.

echoing what has been said about the built in back-pressure... I love the Winglock Longneck you can get them in Walnut, Hedge, Delrin, & Acrylic from $30-$130 easly to blow and sounds great.
Good luck you are going to get hundreds of different names and styles... My advice would be to buy some nice calls used decide what you like get Honker Talk (SHawn Stahl DVD) and stick with it...

The flutes are very good if your just beginning. But if you have time to learn you may want to go with the short reed. My recommendation would be before you put out allot of money get with someone who has some calls and listen to them and see if you can give them a try. I also recommend getting a cassette tape or CD that explains how to use these calls and try to imitate their sounds. I have a couple different brand calls and a cassette from Foiles Migrators and a Scott Threinen Bad Grammer CD. If you would like to try my calls and hear the tape/CD let me know. One more thing when you get your call(s) and tapes/CDs be sure to practice and practice then practice some more. Then lets go kill some geese.

SMH & winglock sr for me. Started with an Olt flute.
Depends on what you want in a call and what you can afford. But you don't need to spend $100 to kill a goose in the dekes. Just invite me and we can use mine ;D No really as long as you can make a decent honk you will fool some, and sometimes you can sound like a whole flock and not fool a single one

Yeah Jajwrigh, Let me know if you need some instructions and instructional materials, I can get you a Straight Talk instructional CD with Shawn Stahl, I also have a copy of Honker Talk DVD from Shawn Stahl I can sell you, and also have copies of the Bad Grammar instructional CD. Plus you're close to me and we can hook up and practice some if you need. Again get a beginner call and start from there. No need in dropping some serious coin till you know you're ready and want it. Again, if you get a call let me know and we can hook up and make sure it is tuned properly for you. If you're serious about goose hunting and not just a couple of time a year type thing, definitely learn the short reed goose call. It is hard to go from a flute to a short reed, so learn the short reed now, plus the short reed call is so much more versatile with the sounds it makes. To be real honest with you, I prostaff for Buck Gardner Calls, and I would love for you to try them, but any one of the list here are good beginning calls for cheap money and readily available at your local Gander Mtn. or Sportsman's Warehouse. All of these are polycarbonate calls. Also don't forget the acrylic Canada Hammers left for sale at the Greenwood Gander Mtn. for $34.99 (that is a awesome price, they retailed new for $75.00 a couple of years ago, but they are no longer making them with the new SS calls out, so these are leftovers selling cheap) Great call for the price and we can tune it to fit you, etc.
Buck Gardner Calls Canada Hammer 2, in the performance series (has a hand shaved reed, double o-rings, $24.99 new) Rnt Quackhead calls Goozilla (does not have a hand shaved reed, no o-rings $25.00 new) H.S. Hitman (does not have a hand shaved reed, single o-ring, $34.00 new) Big River short reed call (does not have hand shaved reed, no o-rings, apx. $25.00 new) Knight and Hale pitboss (does not have hand shaved reen, no o-rings, $25.00 new, and these will definitely need to be tuned, they are terrible out of the box, but can be tuned to sound ok) Foiles meatgrinder (hand shaved reed, no o-rings, $60.00 new)

See if you can find an older Grounds SuperMag as they're very goosy when the guts have been broken in.
