If you've never been to Pool 9 in Wisconsin you should go just to see all of the canvasbacks and other divers buzzing the MS river. It was an amazing site to see all of those birds in the air come shooting time.

A drake wood duck would be hard to beat for the title of prettiest duck and I hoping to get mine back from the taxidermist soon. A good friend of mine has a drake hooded merganser being mounted also which I would consider as the leader in the competition for second prettiest waterfowl here in Indiana.

The most beautiful duck I know of is in my crock pot right now along with other good tasting ducks.

When I lived in So. Cal. I had a permit from the DNR and raised Woodies and these: I know that they aren't native, but I'm up in the air as to which one is prettier!

Ahh, another mandarin! Incredible markings as well. I think the colors of the Woodie are what put it over the top for me.

Yep, a Mandarin. They were in the came pen and while both the woodies and mandarin's raised clutches, they never interbred.
I hear that there are some flying around So. Cal. now.
Mine came from SeaWorld. They were excess "stock" and their biologist showed me how to pinnion them permanently so they wouldn't fly. No blood or heat required, and it seemed pretty painless to them at the same time.

Took it to a lady who works for the rehab place. She called and told me it had an injured spine. I have not heard a thing since then.

Give them a call John..... tell her you want it back so you can shoot it and mount it. LOL. Seriously, you should give them a call and see how it fared.

I saw pics from either last year or the year before from a guy who had taken pics of a mandarin on Roush. He was just swimming right allong with the mallards. Not sure where he came from but could you imagine him coming into your spread?
