I was lucky enough to need to drive through Linton today so I detoured through some of GOOSE POND. Let me tell you it was loaded up with birds. Mallards Golden Eye Shovlers Red Heads Blue Bills - by the thousands Coots Canvas Backs Canada Geese Pintails Black Ducks And that is just what I saw in the 20 min. I was there. This was my first time there and all the pics were taken from my truck. I would love to head back down and spend a day.

BG,
Check out the areas known as BH-2, BH-5A, BH5B, GP9, GP5S&N, BH-4 (at times) and GP6A. It was a real treat when I got to hunt BH-2 last year when the ducks were there. Nothing like watching flocks of 200 pintails spiraling into the marsh and boy were they skittish! That place is going to be a lot of fun once all construction is finished. I honestly think it will help all of the surrounding areas by bringing more birds through that portion of the state.

You can get a map at the information booth on the Beehunter marsh side or online on the idnr site, I have been driving around out there this week and it is lousy with birds, so many geese I cant count them they are roosting on thousand islands and feeding in the cornfields by the old hog barns on the Goosepond side. It is worth it to see that many birds come in to feed even if you cant hunt em. There were alot of Pintails here this week also. I truly believe this project is going to put Linton IN on the map.

I have hunted GP-10, BH-2, GP-5S, and BH-5C. The best place to view birds is BH-2. You can stand up on the levee at the main parking spot and you can see the entire pool. The only places that have water on the east side of 59 are the GP units and some of them are really long hauls before you even see water. The Main Pool is not flooded and will probably not be done until 2009 according to the folks at GP. Supposedly there is a beaver dam that holds water in MPW but several guys have wandered around the entire place and never found it so I have no idea.
By the way, do you hunt much on the river around Martinsville or anywhere around Martinsville?
