Anyone who does not know why unions exsist, has never worked in a large company atmosphere with out one. I know dozens of people who hate unions, and have talked to at least a hundred others. They ALL work at large companies that have no union. I'd say anyone who has no clue how much damage unions have caused in the past thirty years is a union worker.

I am not a big fan of unions but why anyone would want lower skilled workers to earn lower wages and receive less benefits is beyond me? Don't worry the less benefits and lower wages will kick in for us all when obama care starts.

Lower wages and less benefits are a good thing? I would say that anyone who doesn't see that the Labor movement is important to middle-class survival is probably a rat.

The employees making the Twinkies now are getting better wages and more benefits than they had before getting this job. Where did you find this?

I would say he is assuming the employees did not have a job before .... therefore any wage and benefit is better than what they had.

Your premise presumes that they can negotiate higher wages and better benefits, as the former employees found out, sometimes there's a limit to how much a snack cake is worth. To use your logic, would you want someone making $25 per hour baking your snack cakes? Are you willing to pay what that high wage, and it's accompanying benefits package, will cause that snack cake to cost? Should an entry level fast food worker qualify for a wage higher than minimum wage and a benefits package? Imagine what that burger and fries would cost. You and I are probably both old enough to remember when a 1/4 lb burger combo at Rally's was under $2, and inflation alone didn't triple it in under thirty years, the ever rising minimum wage was largely responsible. Should menial labor command a high wage and benefits? I don't think so, none of us could afford it.

Two sides to everything, especially this one. I would agree that with good management, unions would not be as needed. Problem is, that is nonexistent in the real world today. Corporate greed has taken over. Before you can blame a shutdown on a worker making $24/hr., you'd need to look at the upper management salaries and PERFORMANCE. www.examiner.com/article/the-real-reasons-hostess-went-bankrupt

I also don't understand why anyone would support having lower class nonquality workers preparing food products for yourself or your children. Sounds kinda risky to me???

kevin1 Like I said Iam not a big fan of unions but I have also seen people working in a factory for 9 dollars an hr without benefits and in my opinion thats not fair to work someone like that for a wage you cant even live on. Thats just my 2 cents......

At one time the union was awesome for America, especially for safety in coal mines and factories. I believe that they got greedy and ruined it for themselves. I believe that they created the mess and are now suffering. A business is exactly that a business. They must make money or close the doors. I haven't worked at a company that has a union in 30+ years, but have a contract. They want me and treat me well, because I make money for them ...more than they pay me. ...and that's how it works.
