I've been cutting some osage this spring. I have found some great snakey grained trees. It is a bear to split. It took me over two hours to get one log busted in half today.

The pictures aren't showing up for me. Can someone let me know if you can see them. If not, I'll delete the post. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I'm not seeing anything either and I'd really like to see what you're working with. One of these days I need to stop by and see where you're getting long enough wood from a hedge apple to make bows from-especially from diameters large enough to split.
It's certainly a hard wood and nothing will be easy on it to work with.

I'll try the attachment route. Never had to do that before. All of this has snakey grain. Attachments:

Now it won't let me attach any more pics. I'll try later.
Dadfsr: Our property is full of large diameter osage trees. They get so heavy they just fall over. The ground is soft and the roots can't support the weight. I only cut the ones that have fallen. This tree was about 16". I couldn't get through it with my little 14" homelite. I cut a big one in 2011 that was 24".

Did you upload them to PhotoBucket with your iPhone? I've had trouble posting pics that were from my iPhone. Not sure if it is PhotoBucket or Proboards at fault. Still trying to find out. .

Woody, all the pictures were loaded from a computer. The links worked fine on another forum. It might be on my end. Hughes net has been causing us fits lately. I'll try to load some more. This is all second growth with dark rings which is supposed to be great bow wood. Attachments:

It was like trying to cut through a steel pipe. My saw had a harder time cutting these than it did the 14" logs Attachments:

This log is straight grained and has nice fat rings. It split very easily. My little homelite sure tears up some big osage trees. Attachments:
