I stopped by the Columbus rural king to see what they had any ammo in stock today. I went back to the usual area where the ammo was and the shelves were all bare and they had been rearranging things. Took me awhile but I found where they had moved it to. I noticed all they had room for on the shelves was shotgun ammo. I asked the store manager if they were going to continue to sell handgun and rifle ammo and he said yes and that they were building a gun store and going to sell handguns, shotguns and rifles. I am not sure if this is going to happen to all rural kings or not, but just found it interesting and though i would share.

It is my understanding that the Gander Mountain in Merrillville has cleaned out everything and is going to be a firearms store only. Not sure why when they have such a large store in Lafayette other than maybe they are having a hard time competing against Cabala's and Bass pro which are only a few miles away.

Did a Goggle on "rural king selling guns" and it appears that some do sell guns and some dont. Not sure the difference?
Not sure how Gander Mountain and Dick's in Evansville stays in business. Prices are high and they don't have near the selection that Bucks and Jakes does in Boonville..

Good news! Thanks for sharing...any time frame when they'll start stocking guns? I didn't ask, I got the impression that they were in the process of constructing the gun store. I know the whole back half of the store is tarped off. not sure if that is where it is going or not

You must be thinking of the Big R that is in Crawfordsville I'm betting he knows exactly which one is which! I happened by there today and...NO firearms sales! The manager said they may start selling firearms again this summer. It all depends on "corporates" final decision.

Prices seem high there to me and as close as Whittakers is for us I'd much rather go there and save 20% or more.

It's been almost 4 years since I've been through C'ville. It's the store that moved into the old Walmart location on 231directly across from Home Depot that I'm thinking of. Big R is probably the one.

Yes, that is the Big-R store. They still have a good size gun section. It's a must stop for hunting supplies every year for me due to their good prices and selection. They also carry some items that are getting hard to find in the big chain stores.

The Big R in C-ville had to suspend gun sales due to some paperwork issues. They are in the process of digitizing their system and should be back to selling guns sometime this year. They currently have a good selection of hunting equipment, shooting accessories, and are selling ammo and some handloading supplies.

Last time I was in the Rural King in Columbus I was talking with an employee who told me they were going to be re-doing the whole store. He never mentioned the gun area, but it is definitely a plus. The family loves going to Rural King to just walk around for a while.

The Jasper Rural King has a help wanted sign up looking for people to work in the sporting goods section who are familiar with firearms. Looks like they may be stocking guns this year.
