While certainly not to the same level as our special forces warrior... I took Ben to his first "open" wrestling tournament today. That means not a beginner tournament. A beginner is a wrestler with only 1 or 2 years experience. This was an open... but since he's a Pee-Wee, the youngest age group. 4 and 5 year olds Born in (2007 or 2008) the Pee Wee's are by definition, only 1 or 2 years of experience. Well my son, who turns 6 in February is 50" tall and weighs a solid 61 or 62 lbs. I would guess he's got about 5% body fat. He's not too aggressive, and is sort of a happy go lucky kid. But he's SO big, often he doesn't have anyone to wrestle at meets. Today he had 1 challenger in his bracket, in a real, double elimination tournament. So... those 2 guys... best 2 out of 3. Ben won on a tech fall in the first match. 17-2. In the 2nd match he was winning 14-0, when he finally managed to pin the kid. So... my little buddy won his first REAL tournament today. I am pretty proud, even though I know he didn't wrestle very well. Here is the happy champion. Jabba

I grew up wrestling I can't wait to start my boys I just have to make sure I don't push too hard. Way to go, in my opinion don't worry about how he wrestled he'll get better I had no clue what I was doing till about 6th grade then it all clicked, he'll be fine in a couple of years. One more thing WOW 61 lbs! I didn't weigh that till about 5th grade that's a big kid I was scrawny but if he gets nothing else out of wrestling it would help with foot work in football and I'm sure you already know about the comitment it takes to even start wrestling so that should go far too. Good Job to all on this one!

Thanks folks. Ben is a big tough kid. But he's real soft at the same time if that makes any sense. He most of the time, seems to have NO aggressiveness at all. I don't push him much, and try to just let him have fun. I always ask him if he WANTS to wrestle before we sign up for another session. There are 3 sessions per year, and we did 2 last year, and are in the 2nd session this year. He would like to wrestle more, and has asked if he can wrestle EVERY night. I help coach in the wrestling room, and I get real aggravated with him not trying. I often have to walk away, and go coach other kids. This is a picture of him a couple weeks ago at a tournament. He really is a monster physically. REAL strong, and lean. He does loads of pushups and pull ups, sit ups and squat jumps. Just for "fun". I guess that's why he's got the physique he has. Jabba
