Put together a Contender 17 HMR and had to take it out for test fire and a little practice on real targets. I got a BSA Sweet 17 scope with target turrets in a trade 2 years ago that has been sitting in it's box never used. So I figured it was time to try it out with my new barrel. This set-up performs superbly I got a nice red at about 40 yards. Entry was just behind the ear and the exit was through the neck as you can see from the photos. The next target came quickly as a little grey ran at my shot at the red and he ended up about 10 feet in front of me on a deadfall. Not a good place to be when I am hunting rodents. The entry was just below the ear...not certain exactly where the exit was at this range...this is why I love using the 17 HMR for squirrels. No runaways!!!

That works (you should see what they look like after a hit with a 17FB; Johnny started to dress that one but I had to do it; it was pretty nasty)

I have about 6,000 rounds of brass for the 5.7x28 to reload for the pistol and rifle so I was thinking about getting a Contender barrel using that brass necked down to 17cal. I think it would be the perfect squirrel/fox/coyote rifle round for 200 yards and under.
