this was my first waterfowl season i live in just south of Ft Wayne, and was working in Van Wert Ohio. One of the guys I worked with got me started in it, and I'm hooked. I already bought a 2010 18' lowe john with a 2010 50hp etec and blind on it, decs, and clothing. What im wandering is are there any public areas that are decent to hunt, and how it is done in Indiana. I have only hunted in Ohio. Do they have blind draws at Salamonie in huninton, or is it first come. Just wandering whats worth my time next season over here, I know I just have to Scout scout scout to find some nice private spots any other areas i'm not aware of that would be good to look into. thanks alot

That's a big boat for a river but we usually have good luck on the East Fork White River here towards south central IN. Maybe find a spot on the Wabash to your west? When the ponds freeze up, that's when the river is best. If you're up for a long drive there's all sorts of opportunities around Atterbury FWA and Goose Pond.

The resivoirs up there are first come first serve and most likely you won't have much to worry about in the way of competition. Your boat is fine for the Wabash River up there too. Just learn the low spots and know what your boat can handle. On the river you will need more decoy anchor weight than you might realize. The river flows strong and brings leaves in the fall and ice in the winter. Find the ducks and the rest is easy.
Good luck and stay safe.

Google maps is your friend first of all. Once you find locations google GIS maps for the area and start knocking on doors. There is alot more public land than you might realize also. Google maps can help you locate nice sand bars on rivers or other wadable areas.

There are a handful of great walk-in draw hunts around. Here is an article I posted on my website with my picks for the 5 best places to duck hunt in Indiana.... It's within the October Montly Article. Links to each place under the pictures. www.willowpine.net/2012/10/willowpine-october-newsire.html
