Hey everyone, my name is matt and i have just started my first ever hunting season at the age of 22. I grew up camping and fishing with my pops and we owned some firearms, but he was never a hunter. Some friends of mine did grow up hunting and not until recently did i decided to get involved. We are heading down to atterbury this weekend for my bday for my first hunting experience. Think we are looking for birds and small game. I own a couple firearms myself, a .22 pistol, a 22 rifle, a 20gauge shotgun and am now interested in finding a nice compound bow. Im excited to be brought in to this subculture. I figured this would be a great forum since i live in indiana and i can get some great advice from experienced hunters. hope to hear plenty of feedback! thank you

Welcome bud! Luckily for you, you'll be able to hunt the late firearms season with that 20 gauge, depending on the county you hunt in. If your eligible antlerless harvest number is 4 or more, than you're good to go from Dec 26th to Jan 6th. Below this thread is a link to the Indiana Hunting & Trapping Guide, be sure to get familiar with the latest and greatest info/rules/regs. It could save you some heartache. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of us. I haven't been on this forum for too long, but these guys seem to be good people.
P.S. Be sure to practice with that 20 gauge before the season starts again.

I wish I did. I've been dove/quail hunting a handful of times, but never pheasant. I'd love to get into bird hunting, just not a lot of 'em around sadly.

Hello mstr2175! I'm new to the site and hunting as well. I'm 53. It's a great sport so far. I haven't killed much with a weapon, but I can sit in the woods all day. It feels like home. So many different types of hunting will keep me interested. Welcome!
