Art, Tom, and myself went out this afternoon for a goose hunt......after spending 3 hours complaining about the inaccurate forecasts which had promised clouds and possible snow....a few clouds finally rolled in about 30 minutes before sunset. We managed to knock down 10 mallards, however despite a feverish attempt to retrieve and locate 3 were able to escape in the high stubble. So, we ended up with 7 in hand between the 3 of us. Art wasn't happy with the goose action, we finally had 3 fly right over our spread as we were picking up. The geese just weren't moving tonight, but I was more than happy with the action. Another great hunt Art... thank you and Tom for a fun time! Gotta go do some plucking now! Here's the group photo.....Tom and I tried to get Art to loose the shirt, but he just wouldn't give in!

If we only would have had another 1/2 of shooting time I do believe it would have turned ugly. Yep, another half hour and the shirts would have been off. ;D
The gun and birds are cleaned and put away. Yes I did have to stop on the way home and give the truck a quick bath. Sorry we couldn't have gotten into the geese, I know they're still lurking in the area.

John.... you know you should always carry the trusty 12-gauge to and fro work! We will credit you with stirring the ducks up since the ones you saw as you drove home were the first of the day......after that we had whistling wings pretty consistantly.
Art, I think had we another 30 minutes we would have limited out on ducks for certain....and at a minimum had 3 geese. It was good shooting regardless...... We have to save some for seed ya know!

Once the cloud cover came, the birds really wanted in. Too bad shooting hours doesn't go a little longer. They really started to fly then.

What kind of dekes were you guys hunting over? Just the big feet or did you have ducks out too?
I'm putting out a roto duck tonight (leaving it off when geese are working) and putting out a dozen or so ducks in the mix with the Big Feet. I've never tried it in a field, but I have buddy that tells me the spinner duck is almost unfair on green heads in a corn field. After all the birds I saw last night, I'm looking forward to testing his advise.

Exactly the spread we are going to use tonight. I've never used the mojo in the field. The spinners tend to flair geese on water in my experience and so I've read for fields. Unfortunately my remote died for my spinner after one too many dunkings in the pond. So, I'll have to position it so I can reach it from the layout blind. Hopefully it produces.

Dec.......we used a long "J" formation on our geese......and I think we only had maybe 10 duck dekes. As the ducks were working, they locked onto the mojo and duck dekes and were coming in fast and hard into them. It was some "in your face" action for sure!

The majority of the time I don't use duck decoys, just the robos. But as we were pulling out the goose decoys I grabbed the duck decoys and threw them out also. Sorry but I can't tell you what brand of duck decoys I have. Not because I don't want to tell you but because I don't really know. I guess it's because I like hunting ducks but I LOVE killing geese. Weather is looking promising for early next week.
