Got out again today on some released birds. I took my son Brendan who is almost 11 years old. He shot his first deer this year. We have shot skeet in the past. So, I felt that he was ready to get out after something that was alive and flying. We had a mixture of pheasants and chukars. There were 4 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs. Sure enough, all of the boys did a great job and each knocked some birds down. The final tally was 10 pheasants and 6 chukar. Best of all, I have a hunting partner for life! Here is a pic of the boys. Brendan and Bella are on the left.

Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun and a learning experience for all. My son was constantly worried about the muzzle of his gun and keeping it pointed in a safe direction. The boys had several flushes where it was not safe to shoot because the birds were too low and close to the dogs. They listened very well. Each of the boys made clean shots and killed their own bird.
Indyqdog, we bought the birds from someone who raises them for $9.00 (pheasant) and $6.00 (chukar). A friend of a friend has ground perfect for releasing. It's a pretty good deal. I have done a few reserve hunts which are also fun. But, you pay around $20 a pheasant and $16 for chukars. They also put a minumum for number birds you must buy at a lot of places too. Still cheaper than driving to South Dakota though!
