Personally, I have had a GREAT season. My stepsons both shot their 1st bucks. I tagged out during the early Harmonie hunt with a buck and two does in about an hour in the stand. I took a doe on the second day of gun season and a very nice buck on the third day. I've seen deer almost every time I've been out.

I've had a pretty good year, but the last 2 weekends have been horrible. Not sure if it's the orange army or the weather. Seems most of the deer over the last week are moving at night with the full moon, clear skies, and above normal temps. I hunt bow only all year and just haven't had the big boys in range during legal shooting hours.
I will say my shooter buck standards are dropping daily!

I guess nobody picked up on this?? Hang tough, Mike....come home safe brother. A very big ---- ![+1](https://www.ingunowners.com/images/smilies/welcome.gif) Thanks for your services over there. Killing a deer is not the only reason to be in the woods. We are fortunate just to be able to hunt.

I've had one of my best seasons this year. I didn't keep track of days or hours in a stand but it was more than ever. I only had 3 hunts that I didn't see a deer- second morning of youth weekend we had a deer blow at us 30yds behind us in the thicket and ended up leaving fairly early, about a week later I hunted the same stand for a short morning hunt and I blanked opening morning of KY muzz season but blew a ton out walking in.
My daughter took her first deer the first morning of youth weekend on her first hunt then took her buck on Nov 14 her first time in the stand with a crossbow. I was fortunate to take 7 deer this year. Started the year with 3 nice does in 2 hunts to get my meat for the year, then took another in early November that gave me a good opportunity and an easy drag out. Got my KY buck the first evening of muzzleloader season and learned a valuable lesson on shooting so early in the hunt. Opening morning of gun season here I decided to take an 8pt that was no where near what I had been seeing but I shot him with a smile on my face knowing I had a good year. Then last week I took a walk to try out a new gun and shot a yearling that turned out to be a button.
Had a great time hunting with my kid and with some friends on public ground. My buddy also killed a decent buck opening morning and his brother killed the giant I had seen that went 175"- all off the same public ground. Also killed my first coyote with a bow this year. Probably saw more shooters this year than ever and passed up deer bigger than I ever have before.
At times I got aggravated with how things went but looking back now it was a great season.

The last 2 years have been awful for me. I have owned my property for 26 years and have always had decent deer numbers around. The farm down the road changed owners and the deer started disappearing. I saw only a few deer last year from Oct 1 till the close of season . This year I saw about 5 deer during early bow season and saw 3 does on a dead run opening morning of gun season and have not seen a deer since even on the trail cams. I am done for the year I am tired of sitting out there seeing nothing. It has gotten so bad I may be done deer hunting period if the trail cams are empty this summer I won't even try next year.

For me, the key word here is "Season." My opening weekend of firearms was the worst I've ever had based on high expectations and not seeing a single deer from the stand.
As for the season, it has been awesome. I got to be part of whitetail1 Son's buck with a blood tracker dachsund named Oskar. And they taught me a few things so I could start using Duke (my GWP) to do the same. And he got on his first track with a doe I took with my Vaquero 45Colt! And I got to experience the joy of my Son's 1st buck with the "J-B Weld" crossbow! And I did a drive that resulted in my Bro-In-Law taking a nice doe with his Triumph! And my Son and I have had some very good talks on the way in and out of the stands! And I've seen some beautiful sunrises and sunsets...
Your post has caused me to sit here and count my blessings. This Season is turning out to be another great memory!

I agree, but at least seeing A deer helps. seeing deer, even if you pass on them is a good hunt IMO. This year has been the worse, people in the area are saying the same. sitting 6,7, or 8 time in a row without seeing a thing.used to be you would see deer that many time in a row. numbers must be down in this area. more development, more hunters. i guess it adds up.

A couple of years ago it was almost like hunting in the 60s and 70s. Lots of hunting and little seeing.

The only awful part was not getting to hunt as much as normal. Deer sightings have been about average. Lots of small bucks and small doe. Have only seen a couple big mature doe. Odd compared to past seasons. Ditto.

I used to say that but I can say I am hunting Gators or Elk or elephants here in Indiana because the deer count on my property is the same as the elephants and gators zero. My neighbor has decimated the deer herd you just don't see anything for weeks on end. I enjoy the woods but I have given up on trying to hunt deer this year because there are none here.

Deer numbers are way down in the spots that I have permission to hunt. I have bowhunted for 40 years and for the past 30 years or so I have killed numerous does with a bow.
I have been skunked for 2 years in a row. I could have killed numerous scrubs though. I am retired now so I get to hunt a lot. I have not had a doe in bow range for the past 2 years. This year I have seen a total of maybe 10 does. This is after maybe 30+ sits. I did kill a decent 10 point on opening day of gun season so all is not lost. No monster but he has a 17" inside spread and field dressed at 185. I have hunted almost everyday of gun season and I have seen 2 doe, none within range. I know I need better spots to hunt but those are hard to come by.

I never fired a shot during gun season. I think i will start my trapping season now and I may go out a few times with my muzzy but I don't expect to get anything. Oh well, its just a deer.

Yesterday was first bad day of season for me. Seen 1 small buck 11 does and yearlings shot over the back of 3 does come to find out the screw came loose on my bow sight and had slide down about a 1/4 inch. luckily I carry allen wrenches and have already scratched marks on my sights so it was an easy fix. Has this happened to anyone else? You could only imagine what was going through my mind until I figured it out.

My Dad had some does walk right under his stand where he was hunting in Huntington Co. during (early) archery season, but spooked them off when he tried to reposition himself to take a shot.
Shotgun season was a bust for me and my wife. My dad did manage to shoot a deer the 2nd weekend of shotgun in Steuben Co. and I think that was because of the cold weather we had that weekend up there.
Yesterday AM (last day of shotgun), we were hunting in Steuben Co. again and didn't see anything until we left for lunch. Saw 15 does on the opposite side of the pond from where we hunt; half were just standing there, other half were just bedded down not 10 yards from the road (single lane road that surrounds the pond). Temps were in the 50's with occasional light rain. As far as I can tell, they are simply not moving on the warm days.
The trail cam I set up on the hunting property in Steuben Co. caught a 6pt buck at 9pm and a doe in the same spot 2 hours later on Nov 25th.
There are still plenty of deer around. Just need the cold weather to hit to force them to start moving instead of standing around with a thumb up their you-know-whats.
