I have only been on a couple of pheasant hunts but got drawn for one of the dnr properties for this coming Saturday. We will not have a dog. Any suggestions on how to hunt without a dog?

If it is a put and take get there early and try to see where they stock them and run that way. If it is wild I have no idea.
Just did a clean-up hunt at Glendale and 3 of us came home w/ 3 birds and flushed 2 others we didn't get. Without a dog...I don't think we would have got one.
Good luck

We hunt this way in South Dakota; I'd say it would work with pen-raised birds just as easily as long as you have enough hunters. You'll need blockers and walk in a V pattern with the bottom of the V in the middle of the field (he will have people ahead of him to the left and right). This will funnel the birds to the middle and when you get to the end the outside guys will stop, then the next two and so on until the bottom of the V gets to the end of the field and everyone is standing in a line. This will keep the birds in front of everyone (95% of the time) and make for some great shooting at the end of the field.

If it's one of the lottery properties (not put and take) you'll be far better off with a dog.
You can take two people with you on these hunts (they're very tough to get). Find a friend with a bird dog and you'll enjoy the hunt more.
If you can't get a dog, walk in a zig-zag motion in a field, stopping every once in a while. When you get to the end of a field, expect the birds (the ones that are running) to flush. Two guys walking, one guy standing at the end.
Enjoy yourself and be safe.

It's a lottery hunt. Last year my Son got drawn for the youth hunt and I didn't go so my friend with a dog could go with my Dad and Son. This year I got drawn so my Son, Dad, and I are going with no dog.

I would REMEMBER don't take your eyes off a bird that has been hit. You will kick up birds if they are there. Like I said earlier if you hit one don't even blink send your son or someone else to the exact location the bird went down.
If there is corn nearby start your hunt there, GOOD LUCK.
With your diversified love of the outdoors you might want to someday purchase a Labrador retriever. I have owned and hunted over Labs for 30+ years and I cannot even imagine going hunting without one.

With all the money rolling out of your pockets go buy a good started dog LOL!
We hunted behind my buddies choc lab and he was impressive, very good w/waterfowl too, and a great house pet. With your luck in getting these loto draws you better get you a dog!
