I'm starting see the gray population increasing here. 20 years ago I caught as many grays if not more than reds, but evrey year those number dropped down to where seeing a gray bouncing in a trap was rare. For several years I released the grays I caught If I got to them before the yotes did. Did catch him in a dirt hole set?

yep, I caught him at a dirt hole set with carmens bushwacker bait and some gland lure. I have a spot where four 4-wheeler paths meet. I accidently caught 2 bobcats in that spot last year. Can't wait for a season on them.

Can't wait for a season on them. I have caught more K-9's using Carmans K-9 Call than any lure. Russ Carman knows his stuff when it comes to making lures. I also use a lot of Grawe's Lures, especially Grawe#2 for K-9's. Yep bobcats are getting common, talk about fun letting loose.

just out of curiosity, coming from someone that knows nothing about trapping, how does one release an animal such as a bobcat

One guy with a catch pole around his head holding it down and another guy releasing the trap watching out for the other three free paws. Some are pretty easy once the noose is around their neck, some go completely freaking nuts. Another way is with a wash tub over the cat with the trapped paw the only thing sticking out under the tub and releasing the trapped paw. They seem to calm down when they can't see you. Most of the time using the tub way, they will not run even after released. I think they feel safe under the tub. When this happen we just leave and come back later and they are gone . I know most of the time a grey flash is all you see when they realize they are free while running off. They sure can make some vicious growls when confronting them.

just out of curiosity, coming from someone that knows nothing about trapping, how does one release an animal such as a bobcat What I did is take a 4X4 piece of plywood 1/2 inch thick and cut about a 3 to 4 inch V notch in it at the botton in the middle. I carefully went up to the cat an put the V of the plywood over the caught paw between the cat and the trap. So I had the plywood between me and the cat. I then released the trap. My butt was puckered the whole time.

Awesome catch! I would probably keep the hide for myself too.
Some good advice there for releasing bobcats. I've been thinking about getting back into trapping, but the 'cats are getting pretty thick around here and releasing one does not sound fun! Maybe with a catch pole, a tub, a notched piece of plywood, and a few helpers I could get it done. ;D

When i caught the bobcats i was like "Yeah!!!!! I caught a bobcat" then it was like "Crap, I caught a bobcat" I am here to tell you they are some pretty mean critters and could tear you up before you knew what happened. The ones i caught were pretty ed and showed their teeth and hissed and groweled at me. I hope there is a season on them soon. Sightings on trail cams and along roads are getting really common in Perry County.

Not cat can out hiss her!!! BB

The washtub idea sounds good cause you could use it afterwards to wash the crap out of your pants.
