Building a layout boat out of my little 11' flat bottom. Half the season last year I needed a layout boat and didn't have one. I debated on buying one, but I don't like the type you buy. I've used them a couple times in the past, and I just dont feel safe in them. So I decided to make one out of my 11' Gamefisher. Got this boat when I was 16 from my Grandpa. When I got it, it had trees growing out of it. This is the 3rd and hopefully last rebuild.
I'll be putting a start to finish (with paint stencil downloads) on my website www.willowpine.net. I'm waiting on the Avery Killer Weed grass mats to come in before putting that article up. Thought I'd share my progress with yall first.
The boat at the start. 4 holes, chipping Rhino Liner, scratched paint, and in need of a major makeover.
Last time I rebuilt I put carpet in the bottom. Carpet adhesive is my worst enemy. NEVER AGAIN will I carpet an aluminum boat.
Got the adhesive out, and now I have to remove the chipped off Rhino Lined sides.
Got the inside clean and clear. The middle seat will be coming out, so that's why I didn't do it. Time for paint.
I finally finished the paint work.
Almost done, now I added the frame work.
Next step is add the grass, and then I'll be done. This is a shortened version. If you're interested in the step by step, then check out the site in the next week or so. I'll have the tools I used, the stencils, and everything else. The guy I hunt with bought a 10' flat bottom to do this to also. So I'll also have the trailer work also on the site. The trailer will be a double decker, that way we can pull both boats. We used them as they are without the grass, added natural veg, and tricked some teals in them this past weekend. Excited that it worked.
