I am beyond frustrated with the air in my 05 TrailBlazer. This started last year. I started at Lyons in Lafayette and thought he had fixed my air and the freon quickly leaked out again. He could not find anything and sent it over to B&M electric. They said there was a leak in the compressor but couldn't get it done for 3 days. My wife was leaving on a trip in a couple of days so Lyons replaced the compressor based on B&M's findings at a price a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. After that fix it still leaked and Lyons went out and bought their own nitrogen equipment like B&M has to look for the leak and couldn't find anything. Lyons finally gave up and felt like B&M diagnosed it wrong. So this spring I go back to B&M and they say the condensor (or something) under the dash has a small leak. So I spend another $1,200 or so and it's still no fixed. They do lots of checking and decide it has to be a bad compressor that Lyons put in. Lyons is able to get me a free replacement part this week for B&M to put in but B&M tells me I have to pay the labor. I argued with them but didn't get anywhere. So yesterday they get the compressor in and leave it all night under pressure. They find it has leaked again this morning. Anyone have any ideas. Is this something that I should seek legal advice? I have never done anything like that before. I really don't know if I have any more options around here. I think B&M are air experts around here. I know they are as frustrated as I am but I have been really patient with them.

So B&M just called me and said they found it. They say they had it under like 350lbs of pressure and had nitrogen coming out of the vents which means the condensor they put in is bad.

Sounds like you would been better off buying a new air conditioner, for your '05 Trailblazer.

Well then they should replace the condenser. There's a dye that you can put into the system too that shows up under UV light.
It sucks when mfg's have poor QC.
I hate it when shops just replace parts as a shotgun approach to fixing things and the vehicle owner pays the price for them not being able to diagnose the problem. There's the possibility that you had 2 bad parts installed, but that's like the odds of winning Powerball.

Take Lyons AND B & M to small claims court with your supporting evidence and see what happens. Not likely you'll be able to include Red China or Mexico in the judgement if there is one.

He most likely won't win the case. Like I said it would have been cheaper for him to buy a new A/C or maybe it's time to buy a new automobile since his current one is an '05 model. I know I wouldn't spend $3,000 to repair an old auto A/C.

Things snowballed on him and I can certainly see how that happened. These "auto repair" outfits are getting to be parts replacers and not diagnostic and repair places. Cut him some slack..

Just saying that I wouldn't spend $3,000 to fix an old A/C unit. If his current vehicle is in good shape then that would be a different matter. I once had a A/C unit go out on my car way back in the 1970's & since I had several miles on the car I just traded for a new car. This is what I did but it might be different for someone else.

I really think these guys are pretty good. They have been as frustrated as I am. Each place did dye several times. B&M is pretty much the local experts from what I understand. I am debt free beside the house so putting some money into my car over a couple of years is ok. Don't have enough cash yet to blow on a new (used) vehicle. Car does not have 100k on it yet so I think I have some more good years to get out of it.

I plan to drive my truck till the wheels fall off.....then ill put em back an d drive it some more. Cheaper to maintain ....even with big chunks of money thrown in.... than buy new.
Assuming they finally tracked the problem down it should be good to go for many more years and miles.

New cars in 1970 cost a little over $3000. Now, major repair costs that much. Once the court rules in your favor, the final cost will be for parts used and initial labor, probably half of the $3000 bill. Good luck.

Back in 1970....42 years ago! Who cares! Wasn't $3,000 about half a years wages for the average guy, 42 years ago?

I personally don't know what the average yearly wage was for the average individual back then. I am certain though $3,000 was a lot of, for most folks, purchasing a new car. All I know is I wrote a check for $3,800 for a new car [fully loaded 8-cyl.] I bought back in 1970. Kept this car until 1979 & traded for a Toyota car [4-cyl. fully loaded] for $6,000.
