The last camp I held was the year before the apprentice license was introduced. Camp was canceled and classes numbers reduced because of lack of interest. Well, I've been asked several times if I would get a camp rolling again.
We run it from 6pm on Friday to about 4pm on Sunday, cover the Hunter Ed and Trapper Ed courses, spend all day Saturday on the four ranges burning lots of powder, and usually throw in some survival skills. The last camp was orienteering and is when I got to meet dbd870.
I'm looking for ideas for the camp next spring. I have a location (two actually), we are working on a date, I'm just looking for a little brainstorming to keep it interesting.
Any thoughts?

I'm not much help in the brainstorming department but I do have 2 kids that would love to come and spend a weekend with their dad and get their hunters ed at the same time. When you get the details lined out could you pass along the registration info?

We ran 80+ kids through the ArcheryCamp USA camps.
I ran the crossbow portion and that was well received..

Fortunately Woody, I have a local archery shop and one in Rushville that are very willing to be a part of getting kids involved. We use 4-H Shooting Sports equipment for the kids to shoot now, but we will be adding crossbows to the archery portion.
Indianagooseman, I will post up details as soon as I get things finialized. Well, knowing me, I'll post it before everything is set in stone. Right now the biggest decision is the date. The best weekend for us is Memorial Day weekend, but that doesn't function well with graduations, the race, and family vacations. I hope to have something solid in a few weeks.

Waiting on confirmation from my location, but our target date is Fathers Day weekend 2013. Currently we are looking at $30 a person to cover movie snacks Friday night, 3 meals Saturday, and 2 Sunday. Now its time to work on sponsors for goodies for the kids and anything to cut the food budget. The plan is 40 kids and I'll post registration details when I get the date confirmed.
Starting to get a little excited. It's a lot of work, but I really enjoy these camps.

I've got to pull on a few strings, but I think the "Extra" activity for this camp I'm going to try ATV safety. The DNR actually has a course, but I'll have to check into it to see if I have enough hours in the weekend to do the actual class.
Hunter Ed Trapper Ed ATV Safety ED
Should be a fun weekend!
