I'm not a camper, but I know a lot of folks like Shakamak. There are a couple of lakes in the park and hundreds of public lakes within a twenty minute drive of the park.

We go camping at chain of lakes every Memorial Day weekend. That is the only time I have ever fished it. We have fished all of the lakes but usually end up fishing Long lake the most, good bluegill and crappie on all of the lakes. Another good lake is Sand lake that has trout in addition to the normal species. The big drawback to that lake is the traffic, that is the lake that the boat and canoe rental is on. Hope this helps some. Have a great time.

Depends on what you are into. Hiking and hunting I would go Hardin Ridge on Lake Monroe but that isn't a state park. Shakamak or Chain o lakes would be good if you are into fishing, Dunes state park would be good too.
More importantly is which ones to avoid. For me most the the upper wabash reservoirs are junky cow pasture stack the tents on top of each other...
