Tilled mine up last week didnt throw any seed. Still way to dry to be planting, unless you are watering it somehow. Slight chance this week for rain in SE indiana.

Plant it and they will come! LOL You plot looks nice.
A tip about broadcasting seed is to adjust the amount down to the point you think you are not putting enough seed on and that is about the right amount. h.h.

You guys are probably right. I put down quite a bit of seed. A couple things though. The soy beans bag was only about 1/3 full. Also, I tried to mix annuals and perenials together so that I would have some return crops for next year. This would have all been corn and beans if the weather would have cooperated.
We missed the rain that came through this week. There is a chance of rain on Monday (40%). Seed will have been on the ground for 10 days at least before it gets wet. Bet the birds are enjoying it. I might have to run a hose down to the river...

The moisture in the ground now is just as, if not more so, important thant rain later on..

If the seed germinates and then you dont get rain for a while the seed is toast.
I planted a corn plot earlier this spring and used the wrong seed. The seed I planted only came up in spots, so the rows had many gaps in them. I was going to leave it but about 3 weeks ago I decided to bush hog the field down an planted the middle oval in Shot Plot. I will drill wheat in the outer oval in about 3 weeks. I love hunting over the plots but in reality Ive only killed one buck in the last 3 years in one of my plots. Good luck to all that planted plots this year! h.h.

The rain always seems to go north or south of us. I've seen approaching storms split and part of it go north and part of it go south. I need to redo part of my front lawn. A portion of our food plot is getting cultivated today. Wheat, oats and turnips will go in shortly

Put out 1 1/4 acres more in food plots this week end and hopefully got the rain last night to get them germinated.Just hoping to get the rain this coming week end to keep them going. The failed crops and mast in this area are going to make the plots important sources of food for the wildlife...............got my fingers crossed.

Got four small plots totalling about three acres planted this evening. Glad to have that done. Had a good rain last evening, and the soils worked up real nice.
Used a Purple Top Turnip, Buck Forage Oats mix. Now just need to continue to get some good growing conditions.

What is the latest to put out oats? I have a bag and didn't want to put it out with my other seeds cause the oats seem to grow so fast. I might get a chance to put some out this weekend but work and family might delay that again. I believe I have planted some up to mid/end of September with decent results but cant recall for sure.

Look's like you used a culipacker?? Started using one 3 year's ago and have been getting better stand's in my plot's. ( Look's good) Hope we all get the 2 to 3 inch's of rain they are predicting for this weekend. Heck I'd rather watch RAIN for labor day this year than FIREWORK'S....LOL

Plot site looks very good. Agree 100% on culipacking. When putting winter wheat on the same field, i'll broadcast it, disk in, cultipack, then sow my small seed and cultipack again just so the smaller seed doesn't get too deep.

In the last two days I planted 12 wheat food plots in the anticipation of the upcoming rain this weekend. The turnips are up about 3-4 inches and looking good. Clover is also up about 1". h.h.

As I get older I have about as much fun going through the whole process of putting out the food plot's and watching the deer use them as I do hunting. Last night I did some bushogging and counted 84 deer around the farm. I currently have 6 acre's of alfalfa, 4 acre's imperial whitetail clover, 1.5 acre's turnip's/forage oat's mixture and 2 acre's field corn. Our farm consist of 145 acre's. From what i'm seeing . I think the deer are enjoying it. Look's to be a good season in the making.
