Spent Friday working @$@#$$%!#$ then had to coach a tennis match an hour away. Got up Sat looking for some geese to nail. My lab went on his first goose hunt. We had several flocks fly over, a few gave us a coupke of looks. I was excited that my dog began whining when the birds flew over- he knew what to do.
The birds had been shot at apparently as we usually have some decent success.
no takers, but a few mallards flew into our dekkes, and 50-70 wood ducks traded back and forth all morning. A few teal were mixed in with them, but not in a way that was safe for us to shoot.
I got a nasty migraine head ache late in the morning and began puking. gathered the dekkes and went home. - slept until 5:30 PM- My migraines are nasty!!!!
Sunday, I took my son and a few of his friends( from this year's crop of hunter ed students), 4 boys a friend and I went dove hunting. The kids blasted away. Amazingly, all 4 kids shot the same dove at the same time I did! My dog put on a great retrieve through 6 foot tall bluestem. We brought home two birds and a hat full of wild pears. yummy!
All 4 boys probably told their friends that they shot a dove over the weekend. My boy added the other dove as he shot it just as it slowed down over him.
I am pumped as my dog really does know what he's to do. I trained him myself from books and videos.
When we'd shoot, he'd get really wound up and whine and bark. I put his bark collar back on him and that calmed him down.
He never gave up on the birds in the thick stuff! I think I stumbled on a great dog(got him for free last summer)- age year and a half.
;D
