With the new online check-in option available this Fall, I'd like to know if the following scenario would be legal:
(I have copy/pasted portions of the regulations brochure that I think might be applicable) 1) Harvest a deer in an area that makes dragging the whole carcass very difficult (the HNF for example) 2) Complete temporary transport tag. "A hunter is not required to place the tag on the deer while dragging it out of the field as long as the hunter has filled out and is carrying the required information." 3) Quarter or bone-out the deer and hike the quarters/edible portions out of the field and leave the remaining portions (hide, bones, etc) in the field. 4) Complete the CheckIN Game online check-in within 48 hours of the harvest. "The person who takes the deer is responsible for the delivery of the deer to an official deer check station within 48 hours of the kill, or use the CheckIN Game online system to obtain a confirmation number within 48 hours of the kill. The CheckIN Game confirmation number must be written down on the temporary transportation tag."
I used to do this type of hunting all the time in Colorado and would love the opportunity to do so again here. The only major difference was a requirement for preserving evidence of sex in Colorado if quartering/boning out.
Looking forward to your reply. Thanks for what you do here!

State law prohibits the processing of a harvested deer until after the deer has been checked in. The new deer check-in procedures do not change that requirement.
