I finally got around to posting pictures of this gun. It is a double Action, nickle plated revolver. On the top it says "The American" and "Double action." On the left side of the barrel it says "H&R Arms Company Worchester Mass." The cylinder comes out. Size-wise the gun would be small in most hands and tiny in big ones. I have been able to find a little about this gun but versions of it were produced from the late 1800's to 1941. The early ones were black powder obviously. I think this is "second model" produced from 1905-1941 that handles modern ammo. What .32 S&W means I confess that I have not a clue. (There is a short and a long, right?) Condition I would call "Good." The cylinder seems to line up just right though it wiggles a lot compared to a modern gun. This may be due as much to design as age; the gun really tightens up as you squeeze the trigger and the hammer comes back. My main concern is verifying that it is a smokless-compatible gun. Anybody got one of these?

Thanks trapperdave!
I just read somewhere that since the caliber is on the left side of the barrel it's a post 1904.

Far as I know the 32 S&W is the "short". The long was designated 32 S&W Long.

I'be got a top break S&W revolver from my grandpa that was his backup piece and it has the same cartridge designation. It is short, not long.

I have a similar pistol although it is the Young American. My wife's grandpa gave it to me with a box of 32 s & W and a box of 32 s and w magnums. The magnums will not work but it should shoot the regular >32 S & W without any problems. The link below is the bullets I shoot out of my gun which should work the same for you. www.midwayusa.com/product/549524?cm_vc=S014
