Now that we know when the seasons open lets talk about some techniques that work for you. I hunt my own marsh thats right out my back door and sometimes I might leave my decoys out for a couple days when there aren't many birds around. The problem with that is the muskrats love to grab my anchor lines and tow my decoy to their hole then they chew the line in two. This results in the loss of a decoy anchor and the chasing down of a decoy. Last year I solved this problem by using 20lb. steel leader the kind that comes on a spool and looks like piano wire covered in plastic. Since I know the depth of my marsh I cut the wire to length and use little crimp on clips to fasten the ends. During the season I don't wrap my decoys when Iam not using them I just lay them in a small boat that I tow behind me. These anchor lines don't tangle and the mice and muskrats don't cause me any grief. At the end of the season I take each anchor line and put one each in a small zip-lok bag till next year.

I mainly hunt all public water. All of my gear must remain portable. I use all PVC line attached to Ace weights. These weights let me wrap the anchor around each keel with no scratching. And in cold weather, they have a small line loop on the anchor that lets you grab and remove the anchor with ease while wearing neoprene gloves. My entire spread is G and H dekes. Which includes 1 dozen teal that are placed just to the side of my position. Next I have 1 dozen woodies that line-up all in front of my blind. 2 dozen mallards to form my U shape.½ dozen of the pro-pack mallards with greeters out front. ½ dozen pintails which I place off 1 side of my U. 18 canadas which are placed on the favoring wind side of my spread. 2 mojos on remotes in the bottom center of my U to round off the illusion. All of the dekes are stored in Final Approach single slot bags. Very easy to transport. Very easy to put the dekes in and out of bag and there is no scratching involved.
