Since the spring food plots are toast due to the drought, any suggestions for late summer planting if we ever get some moisture?

All my plot's are in pretty good shape here in Switzerland county. I generally wait till 1st week in august to do any fall hunting plot's. My 2 fall favorite's are Forage Oat's and Turnip's. You can plant together or each by themselves. Draw deer in well into late season. Don't normally hunt over the plot's but back off in the wood's near trail's that lead to them.

Approx. mid August I plan on a mix of winter wheat, ground hog radish and some purple top turnips. I'll also mix in some "shot Plot" by Evolved Harvest that I found at 1/2 price earlier this year, it contains Barkant Turnips and Barnapoli Rape. I tried the ground hogs last year and the deer seem to prefer the tops on them, this allowed the purple tops to grow and make a bigger turnip for then to dig up later in the winter. Just hoping we have good weather to get the fall fields sowed.

I plan on using a brassica mix for fall plots this year...im going to wait as late as possible nless there is substantial rain forcasted (yea right)...i will probably plant between august 10th-20th....brassicas do very well if they have moisture early to get them started. after that they can handle dry weather.....they have never let me down yet.

All of my fall food plots have either wheat or oats or both in them. Frost seed clover in Feb. to extend it a year or two.

Steiny, If you,re asking about the mix I posting, I was able to get most at my local feed store's except for the ground hog radish, I order them from Welter Seed & Honey Co. They're in Ia.(www.WelterSeed.co).

Had dad get ours ready last week and first part of this week. Its about 10 yards wide and close to 80 yards long. Its along a travel corridor in his field between 2 big bedding areas. We are planting some 7 card stud from evolved habitat and some extra purple top turnips. Also doing a small 20*20 spot just for the kids to hunt over. Just waiting on some higher rain chances before we plant. Good luck to everyone

I planted 4 plots yesterday. 2 in a mix of red, ladino and alsike clover, one in EV Clover Crush and the last in turnips. I will drill wheat in Sept around the turnips. I wasnt going to plant anything this fall but recent rains have changed my mine. h.h.

I've had approx. 3 acres ready since the first of Aug. Still waiting for a good chance of rain before sowing. Right now, it looks like I may be waiting awhile.

I hope you all got some rain last nite, looked at my gage this morning and it read 2 1/4" That sure but a smile on my face. I'd decided to chance it and sowed aprox. an acre with a mix of ground hog radish, pt turnips and a bag of shotplot which is a 50/50 blend of darkant turnips and barsica rape. Now I wish I had sowed another plot yesterday. LOL!

Might just have to till up a couple plot's this weekend and wait for the next rain to plant. Got 2 plus inch's yesterday so that was a big help. Course the ground soaked it up like a sponge and we need some more.
