About 10 years ago I purchased a bottle of TORDON RTU to retard the regrowth after cutting down some trees along an old fence line. At the time I purchased it a friend of mine made a comment to me that it can get into the root systems of nearby trees that you may not want to kill, use with caution! Fast forward to this past February I decided to cut down some Mulberry trees that were growing among some pine trees that I planted years ago. These pines are about 12-15' tall and will never amount to nothing other than a wind break because the deer have have rubbed them up so bad over the years. The mulberry's were within 1-3 feet of the pines, after I cut them down I applied some of this TORDON which was ten years old or older to the stumps. This week while mowing my trails I noticed a couple of the pine trees were dying and sure enough when I checked it was the trees that were next to the stumps that I had applied TORDON to.
For those of you who may decide to use this chemical be very careful when you apply it even after 10+ years this stuff still kills.

It is very effective! I use it on autum olive w/limited success but I use it lightly for the very reason you describe

I don't soak everything with it, I put some in a can and use a paintbrush to coat the cut area of the stump.
I haven't had any ill effects show up, but it's something that I will keep in mind. Thanks!

I didn't apply much, I just squirted enough on the stumps to cover the top. I didn't even think it would still be effective after all these years.

Lot of poisons are like gunpowder. Keep it out of the sun and sealed and it will stay effective for a LONG time.

I use mine in a spray bottle and just spray it a couple of times on the tree I cut. Works on vines and other things and never had an issue of it killing anything else. But good point you make!! BB
