Nope the wife didn't have a baby, I acquired another lab. My sons girlfriend bought a yellow male and has now decided she can't take care of it. After having the dog for four months I think it's more like can't handle him. For the price she paid I should feel very fortunate to get him "FREE". He's well behaved and is making some pretty long retrieves. I think with some work he'll turn out to be a good hunting partner. My nine year old chocolate female surprisingly gets along real good with him. I'm taking him in for his manly fixing next week, sorry Dozer, but it's a dog requirement if your living in my house.

Snake, you saying "Darn the luck" for me getting the dog free or the dog getting his manly fixing? You too could have had a black lab free (duff's) a couple months ago so you must be talking about getting fixed. If you want I'll schedule the appointment for two.

What do you guys do to get your dog to retreive. My dog will go get the dummy and then run around like a mad man and not bring it back to me.
When i throw it in the pool she will retreive it and bring it back to me but not on land.

Snake quit making excuses! If you wouldn't have such an aversion to women, you could have someone to watch your dog.

JWB,
You know I'm not cut out for any kinda relationship, so a dog ain't gonna happen unless I change jobs.

I started my female and my son started the male both as soon as we got them, around 8 - 9 weeks. Started with real short retrieves and gave a small piece of a biscuit treat when they returned the dummy. The male will retrieve but drops the dummy if the female is out, he wants to play. If I have him out alone he'll return all the way to me. I'm definitely not a dog trainer and my female was my first lab. All I ever expected out of her was good behavior so anything more than that was a bonus. She has made for a great hunting companion for the past 9 years and she don't give me crap when I miss a bird. You may want to try to use a long cord and pull them back to you. I'll also suggest a small treat when they do get it right. Some will say a shock collar is a must but I"d rather not. Maybe someone on here can give better advise.

Try running away from your dog, when it comes back to you with the dummy praise the heck out of it. If they don't bring the dummy back quit playing fetch. The long check cord works great too for a lot of training needs.

If both of you turn the decoy carrying into a competition I don't have to worry about doing any of the hard labor. Ok lets see how many days there are in the season and we'll make it the best out of the total days. The loser gets to wash all decoys and put them up for the season. Deal or No Deal?

Maybe snake will find a boyfriend that can help move the dekes. I hear those types like to stay in shape and snake is a neat freak so I am sure he would love to wash your dekes for you too.
